OT is considered a playground. Some members view OT people as less than them. Kinda like the whole Evo Vs Ralliart vs OZ bs that is constantly going.
those people need their *** kicked I drive an Evo and altho I consider the Evo a better car than RA and OZ I don't degrade the owners of either or consider myself above them that type of thing isn't cool and only leads to pointless fighting which we all should be above
Granted, It would make alot of the OT regulars happy. But then we'll get the flame wars about why Im better than you becuase I have more posts, blah blah blah. OT posts dont count for a reason, and UK metnioned those.
same goes for that flaming people because of a post number is stupid and if your worried about that then why have post numbers at all?
hey I have about 20 more real posts than you do does that mean I'm ganna harp on you for that gimme a break I think most of us are a lil above that type of petty behavior

I'm not trying to argue with you I just honestly don't see the harm in it at all and you and the other mods have to admit OT forums get more posts and as much or more activity than any other single area of EvoM so its not like we are talkin about a minority thing here

Yes, its horrible, retarded behoavior, but it will happen. Its the nature of the beast

Im not agrueing either. I don't see the harm. I'm just tyring to find the best way to explain that it will never happen.

You are right, OT is typically just as busy as the Evo forums, busier at times. Its just not the focus of the site.

Dont get me wrong, I love OT and it has grown more while I've been in there. Its just not something that would really benefit the site as a whole. OT is one of the busiest forums, but only about 50 members regularly post there. 50 < 22000

Yea i realize your trying to come up with reasons why its not going to happen but the fact of the matter is you all really don't have a good reason other than OT isn't the focus of EvoM which its not but adding one number wouldn't take the focus off the other forums at all just make a quicker referance... and you don't actually think 22000 people post on the other forums do you?

22000 people are regiesters (or ther abouts) Theres about 1500- 2000 active posters.

Reference for what? Something that is of no signifance? Whats the point?

We can go back and forth about this all day, and not get anywhere. OT posts don't count, and never will. The Serach function keeps track of total posts.

Um, spend more time there. Back when I was a postwhore, it was considered job one to **** off the n00bs. Whether a high member number or a low post count it has and will always happen.

And why are you campaigning for equal rights anyways? It's OT. This is a Lancer/Evo message board. You need to recognize that the needs of OT users come second because they do not in any way serve the main point of the website.

I end this with one thought: you're probably saying "what the hell does Blacksheepdj know? I never see him in OT!" I've put my time in. I've spent far more time on OT than I should have and damaged my love life in ways you couldn't even understand. And I have 1743 OT posts.

It also wouldn't hurt EvoM to make the site background pink flowers (and it would please many of the female members and maybe some confused men) with a new forum added for cooking recipes and flower arrangements, but the question you have to answer is why? Why should the admin even lift a finger to change the way post count is displayed. If you give us a good and valid reason, he just might do it. If your only reason is because you want it and it won't hurt the forums, well than I want pink flowers Sorry if I seem like a smart @$$, but I don't see any reason to change other than a couple of members' whims. Just tell us what purpose it would serve, and that would impress most of us and maybe make it worth while for Mark to press a few keys.

If you really want a good reason why it's not going to show up it's because it's more unecessary work for Mark. Mark already has a lot of important and necessary things to work on for the staff especially, and also for the focus of the site: The car forums.

Quite frankly, I don't care how many on topic OR off topic posts people have, and I certainly don't want to be reminded that some members post almost exclusively off topic. I don't post a lot there anymore...or anywhere for that matter, but I don't understand the significance of adding any attention to the number of OT posts I've made. As far as I'm concerned it's like polishing the bell on a rusty bike.

I'd rather see a user based rating system for the on-topic knowledge/contributions of a poster than see a post count at all. I do not like highlighting the amount of times a user can click the Post Quick Reply button without tripping the flood filter, so much as I like highlighting the quality, on topic contributions made by our members. First and foremost this is a site about Mitsubishi Lancers. Anything else is just icing on the cake that is EvoM.

In regard to your making suggestions: Keep it up. It's better to get a "No" than to never have made your thoughts known at all.

and I think urban may have misunderstood my idea seeing as how his reason not to instate it was based on something that is totally not effected by it at all.
Why is it a bad idea? What's lost is one more query for the server to run for each reply to every thread that is viewed, adding to CPU overhead - a fairly trivial amount, admittedly, but it's there. What's gained is absolutely nothing. Thus, the cost:benefit ratio is infinite, which is a good reason to nix it.

Also... PJ does not have a hard-on for shooting you down, and he doesn't have a personal vendetta against OT. Brian knows exactly what your idea is saying, and his reason for the fraud is totally valid. People troll around OT, rack up a few thousand posts, and a n00b sees that post count and assumes the person is a long-standing member of the board and can be trusted. The trader rating should override that, but you never know.

Last - If you really want to draw attention to how much time you sit in A:PW talking to yourself, put it in your sig. The OTers know it, the Lancer/Evo guys don't care. It seems you're the only one that really does care - which makes it perfect material for your sig.

^

And that's coming from someone who has over 5000 OT posts accounting for almost 80% of his total, and obviously doesn't hate OT. It's really a trivial issue.

Great post.

As for the idea, those answers right on top of this post, seem to sum it all up.
