Ok so mods threw out my last idea but I'm back to the drawing board with new ones

I understand a lot of mods (dispite popular opinion) do not want OT posts to count in the post counter

Why don't you set it up so that the post counter is set up as a fraction
Real posts/total posts

example 456/752

its simple and keeps track of both numbers without confusing OT posts with real ones

Its the best of both worlds what do you all think?

it's fine the way it is. why are you so worried about having OT posts visible? OT goers know how active of a person you are. Ask anyone there and they can usually start naming the ranks of the top OT posters

I don't understand the significant importance of doing such a thing. Does it benefit the site as a whole? It's a waste of time to even think about doing it (as it likely won't happen).

I hang out in there when I'm done with my daily routines. I don't hate the place. And where did this whole "lancerEvoMr hates OT" come from? This thread is about your suggestion, not me hating OT. I have nothing against it. What I told you is the truth, that it'll not likely happen. I can't sugarcoat the damn thing and tell you, "ahh yes, it'll happen very soon."

 

Just my opinion, but the post count is kind of a rough guide (before anyone goes hating, I said a ROUGH guide) to how helpful the member is in the forums. Since 99.9999% of all OT posts do not contribute anything in the way of enjoying, improving, or fixing Lancers/Evos, the admin decided to keep it out of the post count. If anyone wants to know someone's total post count, they just have to click on "find more posts by ____" after clicking their user name, and the total will appear in a search. For example, my "fraction" would be 3528/8496.

btw, the reason OT counts were eventually omitted was because newbies and banned users under new names were coming on and post-whoring to get to Evolved status faster. Sure, that may seem harmless, until you see many members get victimized in the classifieds section by the same person using a new user ID every mmonth. I've seen thousands of dollars lost on people who buy what seems to be a good deal, then nothing gets shipped and the guy cancels his user ID and yahoo email addy. Just to let you know where we're coming from in this decision.

 

Yea I realize that and your totally right... however I am not asking for them to count for you "evolved" status or even as posts but simply to be mentioned beside your post count.

I see no reason that total post number being next to on topic posts would hurt this place... I think you just get a thrill out of putting down my requests because you have shown absolutely no good reason why this is a bad idea you just simply state your opinion that it is reguardless of the majority of the users who have viewed this thread stateing it was a good one.

and I think urban may have misunderstood my idea seeing as how his reason not to instate it was based on something that is totally not effected by it at all.

 

The fact of the matter is that the events in OT and the regional forums, more often than not, have little to no relavance to the purpose of this board. Sure, I would love for my post count to show, but its not needed. If you are curious about what your total, look it up. Its not hard. Pm me if you don't know how.

And Peejay doesnt hate OT. He just knows, just like all moderators, that OT is not the focal point of the site. And he doesn't get a thrill about throwing your ideas out either. He is just realistic. Mark won't take the time to add soemthing to the site that takes away from the purpose of it.


Besides, what real good would having 120/8000 do?

The ontopic/offtopic battles will always happen. Off topic will always lose, becuase it is just that - off the topic of the site.

What I don't understand is what the battle is... I realize that this idea isn't going to drastically change EvoM for the better or make it 10x as efficient that was never my plan or intent. I don't see why there is any "battle" at all as you can see I have posted a fair share of on topic posts as well and I enjoy all areas of this place.

If something new doesn't in any way hurt EvoM and it pleases many of the users why not put it into place tell me this what harm would it do?

Crazylizard you said that you and other mods took all ideas into consideration and used a lot of them but so far every idea I have had hasn't even been looked at its been discarded because its for OT before anyone really even thinks about it or what impact (if any) it would have to the site

In this case I don't really see any impact at all this idea would have except it would make a lot of OT users happy. If it in anyway would drastically hurt this place please let me know how.

 

OT is considered a playground. Some members view OT people as less than them. Kinda like the whole Evo Vs Ralliart vs OZ bs that is constantly going.

Becuase it requires more time, effort, and space to do that. It really serves no practical pupose. Like I said, the serach posts feature keeps take fo all your posts.

I didnt say all ideas. I said a good number of good ideas are considered. Not that your idea is bad, its just distracts fomr the primary purpose of the site. OT is not the primary purpose of the site. It is for subjects not pretaining to the Lancer, Ralliart, or Evo in any way. WE constantly are evaluating what is good for the primary purpose of the site, and act accordingly.


Granted, It would make alot of the OT regulars happy. But then we'll get the flame wars about why Im better than you becuase I have more posts, blah blah blah. OT posts dont count for a reason, and UK metnioned those.

I know its frustrating, but its something that you have to live with. I hate it too, becuase I have more total posts than a good number of people. But, in reality, I only have 700ish that matter. Oh well, in my book.
