Looking for MSR members or guests
Since the autox season is over, I'm sure there are a few of you needing to find some good twisty track time. I generally manage to make it out to Motorsport ranch about twice a month and wanted to see if anyone else is a current member and goes on a regular basis. In addition, I am always looking for guests to go on a per session cost basis.
I would prefer to find somone who has some track experience, or at least attends autox events on a regular basis. Since there are other cars out on course, I feel somewhat responsible as to who I bring with me. However, I am open to doing some in car instruction or lead/follow instruction as needed.
PM me or email me if anyone is interested.
As of now, December schedule is:
9,10,11.12, 17,18,19th.
You will either need to have your own driving suit and helmet or rent one at the track. I think rental is 15.00 each or 20.00 for suit & helmet.

Hmmm....
I might be interested. I've done a DE at MSR once (with NASA) and DEs at TWS twice (NASA and the TWS club). Only one 4-wheel-off in three weekends (but it was a doozy: spun 180 going into Turn 8 at TWS).
What's the cost? How does showing up as a guest compare to going during a NASA or Driver's Edge weekend? Is a suit really necessary (never used one in a DE)? Could I invite a friend from the DFW area to ride with me during a session?
I know of another Houston guy with no road course experience but much autocross experience who's very interested in trying out a road course. He said he'd like to try MSR before TWS. I'd recommend that for his first time he do a full-fledged DE with a ride-along instructor, but I could put a bug in his ear if you'd like.

Unfortunatly, they are necessary. Member days are covered under MSR's insurance policy. DE events are covered under DE's insurance. MSR's insurance requires you to have a driving suit on. They will not let you out on the track without a suit. Even as a passenger.
Sessions are 25-30 mins. 25mins is a session, but if you're first on and last off, you can squeeze in 30 mins normally. Passengers need a suit, but won't cost them anything to ride along.
Sessions cost me $20.00 each, I charge $30.00 for guests to help offset my monthly $75.00 maint fee that happens regardless if I attend or not. If you wish to run more than 4 sessions in a day, I'll work with you on the session rate. I'm not out to make any money, but road racing tends to be an expensive hobby.
I also agree that first timers really need to be through some formal "instruction", or at least have the personality to error on the conservative side. Last thing I need is for a wreckless driver out there with too much testosterone that doesn't know when to "give it up".
However, For first timers, a week day would be best. This way there isn't much traffic on the track and we can concentrate on getting them comfortable with the track.
Sessions are normally grouped by vehicle type. Bikes, open wheel and sport cars. Depending on the day, these rotate every 1/2 hour. If one group is missing, it bumps to the next available group.
I have an interested guest for the 18th. I can bring up to two guests at a time. *normally* my wife reserves one guest spot, but she's been working so much that she prefers to sleep than race a car.

Hey Brad,
I'd love to hook up with ya. I've got a call out right now for some personal instruction, at the Motorsport Ranch, with Kevin Mixon who is a T1 driver. He seems to be a bit on the busy side at the moment, so anything in the meatime would be great. Can you please PM me with your contact info?

Any plans for January?
I'm busy between now and Christmas, but afterward I would love to have the oportunity to get on the track to practice. I've been to 6 autocrosses so far and plan to attend at least 2 evolution school in 05. But I will take whatever oportunity I can get.
