Driver's Edge @ MSR-Houston 01/21/06
The Driver's Edge is having their first DE at MSR-Houston the weekend of January 21st and 22nd. I spoke with The Driver's Edge's Rick yesterday, and he said the event was filling up. He also said he had 40 instructors.
I know some of you guys (Kam) have been thinking about it.
So far Evotino and I are registered. Anyone else?

I've not done a DE with them before.
I've met guys who really love them, and I've met guys who hate them. But the guys who love them and hate them gave me the exact same reason: the emphasis on instruction.
My only experience with them is that the guy who runs the organization called me at 7:00 PM on a Sunday night 4 weeks before the event to talk to me about my driving experience to make sure he was putting me in the correct run group. I've done 8 DEs with 3 organizations and never gotten that kind of personal attention before.
A couple of caveats for the newbies:
- it was at a Driver's Edge event that an Evo owner totalled an Evo at TWS last Fall.
- While MSR-Houston appears to be much safer than TWS, it's not IMHO as safe as MSR-Cresson.

thanks for the links. That's a nice writeup by the instructor/passenger of the wrecked Evo.

I checked the Driver's Edge FAQ, and saw nothing about spectators.
But this link about their Charity Fund talks about spectators:

Ignoring for the moment the appropriateness of Rick pushing his religious beliefs on us, being allowed to take high-speed laps with an instructor is a great opportunity.
I'd shoot Rick an e-mail to confirm this deal and find out what he'd consider to be a good donation.

Just finished the Porsche DE at MSR. It was a blast! Its a great "technical" track that's challenging. Not as fast nor as long as TWS, but only 30 minutes from Houston can't be beat. One caveat, the facilities aren't quite finished yet so keep that in mind.
I highly highly recommend you guys attend an event at MSR.

Got my car teched Saturday, got my oil changed this afternoon, and cobbled together a new and hopefully improved camcorder mount this evening.
I'm a first-timer with TDE so I have to do the Novice Meeting. But I never got anything in the mail (snail- nor e-) from TDE. Did you? I need to know where they're meeting.

. I was out there a few weeks back and it's a blast.
