Emissions testing in Texas
...If I were you, I'll put back the cats before getting your car inspected, just to be on the safe side. That way, you know that you'll pass the "visual" inspection test. In Houston, they check everything, and I mean everything - codes, sniffer, visual, horn, lights. They failed me once (not my Evo) because I had tinted headlights!
I'm running cats on my Evo but I'm curious to know where fellow Evo owners take their vehicles to be inspected in the Austin, or Round Rock area.

I have never had my evo tested because I live in florida. I have a test pipe, cams, full exhaust and I am assuming I would need to put a cat in to pass the test. How do all the evo guys down in texas pass those tests? Thanks in advance.

Chris,
Talk to me, I'm a license state inspector. I can tell you what you need to do to pass your vehicle.

My car is due for an inspection/emissions testing very soon. Can anyone in the Austin or San Antonio area please let me know the process, and recommend any shops they know of? Shop names and phone numbers would really be nice. I run high flow cats with an ATP turbo kit. I also use 109 unleaded octane.
I just had my emissions test today in Dallas. Last night I noticed my SES light was on, so I unplugged the battery for a minute and the code was gone. I'm running just about every bolt-on including a high-flow cat (decided to not go with a test pipe). I was going to put the stock cat back on this morning but I'm missing 2 bolts so I left the high-flow on. The car was tuned for my 264/264 cams and I recently changed to the 272/264 setup and upgraded to a race intercooler. I have not gotten re-tuned so it's very loppy and the a/f is a little off. When it came to the part where they start the car and let it run while the machine checks codes etc...the test stumbled a couple times because of the lop but came through all green. I passed everything and got my sticker.
