I just bought my evo and am interested in AutoXin' it. I live in Austin, Texas and would like to find something close to home.

Looks awesome.... I really am starting to like red. You should get together with Iodine and I sometime. I am sort of an auto-x freak, and I am trying to get iodine more into it. I can't wait to see one of these cars in actions at a X. Should be awesome!

I will probably be at the next one, April 14th. I got some new stickies for the S2000. Can't wait. Get it nice and broken in. Where did you get it from?

I'm thinking about starting up AutoX. Only poroblem is it kind of impedes with playing soccer on Sundays. I guess missing a game every once in a while may not be that bad.

K: Looks like a Barrett Mitsubishi Evo to me... looks like the same front plate I have on my car.

Speaking of plates, my red tags expire tomorrow, ack!

AustinEvo8: Where in Austin are you? I'm up in Leander, but I work down on south 360.

Car looks nice, too. Congrats!

EDIT: A qucik AutoX question for ya, too. Are there any restrictions as far as alignments are concerned when classing the cars? I hear the Evo comes pretty fudged up from the factory, like not aligned to any spec. I was either going to get it put back to factory, which I'm assuming would keep the car in a stock class. Or if they don't know the factory specs I was probably going to go with like 0 toe all around and -1 camber all around. Does this move the car into some "modified" class?

I found some VII specs online that said spec was -1 camber all around, 0 front toe, 3 mm rear toe-in. I don't know if the VIII is the same way or not.

EDIT2: Is that a baby seat in the back? A Recaro baby seat maybe?

Restrictions for alignment. Nope, none.

The camber sounds good. Try and find out what the max you can go is. -1 or -2 would be awesome.

Toe in on the front makes it drive better down the highway. Might try 0 toe in on the front for better turn in. I wouldn't go any more than that or the car will get twitchy.

I would also probably go 0 toe on the rear. Make the rear end hang out a little more. The more toe out the more the rear wants to come around. Since the car understeers slightly, offset that by running 0 toe in on the rear. These toe settings won't hurt the tires at all either. The more neg camber you run the quicker it wears the tires. Running -1 should be fine though.

Things that are permitted in stock. Air filter element change only, front sway bar, shocks, tires on same size rim, brake pads, any fluids, thermostat and belt harness. Probably more, but not as important.

K: The stock VIII specs (the shop forman faxed the pages from the manual to me) areteh same as the VII specs I found. The only difference is they say the front can be either -1 or -2 camber... weird to have two "stock" settings.

Any suggestions as to an alignment shop? I was thinking of going to Brake Specialists up near me in Cedar Park. 4 wheel alignment for $69.95 and I have a $20 web coupon, $50 doesn't sound that bad. Their site claims they use computerized alignment machines and they told me on the phone they would do it to my specs if I wanted since it's my car after all. If you have any good/bad reviews of places, that'd be cool.

I had the same opinions about the specs, especially after finding out stock rear toe was 3mm in. Pumping it to zero toe should help make the back loosen up a bit without being twitch like you said. I think -1 camber and no toe all around will be what I try out.

Sounds really good to me. I have had my alignments done at a place near my house. Speedy Align on Burnet and Koenig (2222). Kind of a run down shop but the guys there are always nice. Think it was 70 bucks. Make sure where ever you take it that they print out the specs from thier machine. Also make sure they hang onto the car while setting it to take out the supsension sag.

Car should turn like a mad man after that.

K: Thanks dude... I'll give Brake Specialists a try first and see how it is. They seemed nice enough on the phone. What's this about suspension sag? I don't get it.

AustinEvo8: Have you AutoX'd before or are you a novice?

Supsension sag... When they load a car up onto the rack with the turn tables, it makes the car sit funny, as if not on the road, similar to what happens to a car after being jacked up and then lowered to the ground before being rolled around. Does that make sense? Any way, as they are adjusting it, they should hang onto the car's suspension from below to pull the cars suspension into a more relaxed state. I guess it is hard for me to explain. Just imagine trying to do a alignment after setting a car down from a jack with the wheels under a weird load. Wouldn't be right after the car moved 10 or 15 feet.

K: I get it, just didn't realize that's what it was called. I've witnessed that on my GFs old civic when I was doing some work under it once. When I let the car back down off the jacks it was sitting all weird until I pulled it forward about a foot and then it thumped into riding properly.

I'll try, but I usually play soccer on Sundays. That's one of the few reasons I've never autocrossed before. Usually after running around for 90 minutes in the sun I like to go home and relax.

Well so it is... I'm used to the AutoX being on Sunday. Maybe I can make it then, since my GF has class on Saturday until about 3pm anyways. I think it's at Tech Ridge, which is up around Pflugerville. Take I-35 North to the Parmer exit. Or if you live in BFE like me, it's I-35 south.

Oh I see the online registration thingee, I just have no idea what class to sign up for. I'll just register on Saturday. But yeah, I should still be in. I'm a little nervous since I've never done it before and don't know how well I'll do... but everyone has to start out sometime, and it sounds like it should be pretty fun to race around bashing (or not) cones!
