Looking to buy a Evo...

Hello,

I currently own a 05 STI and am considering trading it in and am looking into the Evo. Not really sure which model but have been looking into the IX. I was wondering what everyone has gotten theirs for if they dont mind sharing that information. I'm not really sure if this is a repeat post but was trying to see what I could come up with.

How much do the MR's usually run? And could someone cover the main benefits over it and the IX.

Oh and although I'm located in Austin, I dont mind traveling to Houston or San Antonio...

I would really appreciate the help!

Thanks.

Curious why you're trading the STI.

I got a killer deal on my VIII just before the IX was coming out. Paid in the $28.7K ballpark at Don Herring Mitsubishi in Dallas for a base GSR. I'm not as familiar with the prices on the IX. I think the MR usually runs about $4-5k more. Power isn't any different, but you get 6-speed, different wheels/suspension/etc IIRC.

Even being in Austin, you should come up to Dallas and get your Evo from Don Herring in Irving. They sponsor our local Evo group and are fantastic at taking care of us. They have also teamed up with Forced Performance and are offering some serious dealer installed performance upgrade packages. Check out the "Dealership" forum on here, look in the South and there is a thread about it.

Good luck!

If you are in the market for an EVO there is really only two choices wait for the EVOX or purchase a new EVO9. The EVO9 has a big power increase over the 8 when you start the modding process. With just a TBE, MBC, and Re-Flash they put out the same power as an EVO8 with all that and cams. If you have the money then go for the EVOMR9 the 6-speed, lighter rims, and aluminum roof are a nice bonus. If you end up going the used route steer clear of the 03-04 models.

Well to be honest I've just been really eyeing the Evo since the IX came out and am curious to see if this trade in can really happen...

Anyone suggest how much i should pay for the Evo IX? It seem the MR is way to expensive at this point to even consider...And I noticed on another thread that there are two different IX's the GSR and SSL or something, what the difference? As the SSL was a bit more...

Thanks for all the help!

SSL = Sun, Sound, Leather.... I just sold my Stage 4 WRX and am in the same process. Im debating on waiting for an Evo X or get the Evo IX. 4-5k extra is steep for an MR though. especially if you plan on modding your suspension ect.

Well suspension aside, hows the 5 speed tranny stack up compared to the 6 speed on MR?

Get a GSR and then purchase someone elses MR suspension from this forum. You'll save a bundle and have the main benefit of the MR which is the Bilstein shocks. Or you could by some coilovers.

The 6 speed is a little smoother then the 5 speed, but you gain few advantages in terms of speed or fuel mileage.

Yeah thats a good idea on the MR suspension idea and the GSR seems like a better fit for me because my stereo would be coming out of my STI and so the only benefit would be leather and sunroof which dont really matter all to much to me. So far the GSR it is.

So the 5 speed will be rough? Could you be more detailed? And how are there advantages in speed with the 5 speed?

I really appreciate the help!

Anyone know what the best deal I could get for a GSR Evo IX? Based on the post for the invoice pricing, the 28,999 is that the best that I'll get? I was thinking 28 flat + TT&L...

5 speed vs 6 speed.... From what I've read the first three gears are identical. The 4th gear in the MR is shorter as is 5th. So really from a stop they are identical. The 6 speed might have an advantage top end.

This is a great place to get feedback on the differences between the models. If you get a chance to come up to MSR on July 1st You'll get a chance to see how they do on the track. The GSR is a great value and if you decide you want that's the way you want to go let me know if I can help you out, and make sure to bring it to MSR July 1st.

The GSR IX is def the way I want to go...It's just a matter of what kind of pricing I can get, considering it was seeing the South Coast Mitsu pricing that really opened this opportunity up for me, and how much I can get trade in.

I appreciate the offer Don, let me know what you usually come up with considernig what I'm looking for.

I would stay away from Gillman Mitsu Austin. Haven't had a good experience there, gave up on the 3rd attempt. Roger Beasley is better but they're pretty new to the Mitsu game so your best bet might be out of Austin to be honest.
