I have 11, 8 and 7 year old Daughters and a two year old Son. This is my 64th motor vehicle in my 20 years in the states because I am a car junkie of sorts. My Kids are numb now to me switching cars but they absolutely love the Evo. I bought my Wife an 07 Odyssey last weekend and the Kids are trying to bribe me into switching with there Mum for a week so they can cruise in the Evo during the day - yeah right.

It's interesting that you know about Mokes. They are very rare and I am very happy when folks can identify it.

Oh wait. So the stock tires suck on ice but what about in rain?

You. Are. My. Hero.

Please, sir, when you have a chance: more detail about the other cars (or a link to a prior thread elsewhere). I'd also be interested in hearing how the Evo compares to all the others you driven.

The Evo was my foray into attempting to do what you apparently do with cars. When I bought it I kept my Maxima because I thought I might get the "fast car thing" out of my system in a year and then want to experience something new. I figured I'd keep a reliable daily driver back-up car, and rotate out interesting toys. Then I discovered track days and burned through several thousand dollars of track-related expenses in a very short time. Oops.

Doing the track days I made a new friend who had access to lots of cars, so over the past couple of years I've gotten to experience a crapload of cool cars: Vette, Viper, M3, M5 (V-10 version), S4, Boxster, Miata, Mini Cooper S JCW, and many others. I even got track time in some of those, including the M5. If you added the Evo to the list and said I could have only one car from that list as my daily driver, free of charge, I'd take the Evo. The Evo is that good. I didn't know it when I bought it, but I know it now. IMHO, of course.

I've always enjoyed owning and driving anything on wheels. I bought a Freightliner from an auction once just because it was fiscally improper not to buy it (it was seriously cheap). I sold it a week later but it did cause quite a stir at my neighborhood and corporate job .

Not all my cars were high end, there was a time I was stuck on BMWs where I went through 1600, 2002s, an early 528 and a later 528e, Bavarias and a 320i-6. I've had a 2 VW Bus, A Californian Bug, Porsche 924 with a Buick 215 V8 transplant (to fit the V8 I had to remove the brake master booster (I was younger then and had brass ones or so I thought - you had to preplan your brakings). I bought a Dodge Viper but cancelled the contract due to a TMU on the pink (insurance won't touch it). BMW e39, Ford Expedition, Dodge Grand Caravan, Toyota Tercel, Nissan Maxima, Toyotas Truck (who didn't own a Toyota Monster truck in the early nineties), BMW R60, Honda Magna, CBR1000F, CBR600F, Suzuki Water Buffalo (a two stroke water cooled 4 exhaust 70's bike), 3 Austin Mini Coopers, Pontiac Trans Am, Nissan Frontier, Audi A4, Miata, 3 first gen RX7s, 2 RX7 GTU and the list continues but you get the idea.
I will say this, even at my below 4500rpm limit for break in, this Evo is one of the most fantastic cars I have driven in a long time (still not quite as fun as my Moke). I feel like I am cheating when I look at the sorry saps in there humdrum econoboxes.

I am going to document my Evo on http://Evolution.OsiTech.Net

Thanks.

OK, so it's been a week. Still smiling?

Nice pic of the Evo, Moke, and E39 on your site. An E39 M5 is next on my wish list. I like the idea of having two of the baddest sedans ever built.

When I bought my 03 Evo, I drove it from Florida straight to Oklahoma. I took it easy until 1015 miles... car has run strong for 55k miles with no real issues. I recommend doing what they say, but it would difficult to tell unless you just spent all your time at the track from day one.

couldn't convince me otherwise

IMO>>> That crap is BS, I know I'm noob, but lets use basic common sense and a dash of technical knowledge:
Horsepower : 286 hp @ 6500 rpm
Torque : 289 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm
Redline : 7000 rpm

Hmm... out of factory and these are specs?... How could Mitshu sell a car with these specs and not expect you to go over 4.5k? Makes absolutley no sense. In addition, have you rev'd this engine? It is so wickedly stout however the hell Mitsu built this beast, this engine is a MAGNIFICIENT engine and one can easily tell that the rev is wayyyyyyyyyyy low... this engine I can easily see this engine rev'ing into 10k with no problem but not on a normal basis. 7k however is no where near where this rev is limited. You just couldn't convince me other wise. Plus, mitsu knows how rev happy any consumer would get on this car. Easy drives on regular basis sure, a 6.5k rev 5 times before that "1k miles" why the hell not? Also, I seriously doubt mitsu just pieces these engines and slaps it in there, hell no, these things are tested. Take it easy, sure, why not? Slamming the rev limit for an hour... tsh, definatly not a good idea. I guess what I'm getting at is if you've left the car stock, mitsu's ECU definatly just baby's the engine leaving everything in the Safe Zone as long as you're not doing anything over excessive, no matter the milage.

Alright Gents, we are now at 900 miles (I drove the car a lot so I can get past the break in period quickly - I mean I have to know what this car can do before it's gone too

I'll tell you this much, it's not the fastest car I've owned but the AWD system is fantastic.

Okay so it's time for mods.

1. Is there a local tuner shop here in DFW similar to AutoBacs in SoCal and like?
2. Did you piece meal your mods together or buy a staged kit from a vendor?
3. What do you Guys think about this:

I think it would really help if you would starting hanging with NTEC...not only because it's a great group of enthusiasts, but also because we own or have seen just about every mod out there among all of us. It's a quick way to get to the bottom of things with this car.

Just let me know if you have any questions about the club. ntexasevos.org
