Question from new owner
Greetings and salutations. I come in peace and I bring you good tidings. Do you feel it sprinkling down on your shoulders
I just picked up my new IX SE and I have some questions for those that have gone before me.

Your manual should tell you the proper break in periods....people here will give you different mileage numbers..but to be on the safe side just follow the manual if you are worried about warranty.
I dont know where you can get wheel locks...not from the Texas area.
The grin will never go away...but it will turn into looks of frustration when you have an urge to go faster and increase hp.
Do be careful when driving. Do know your limitation as a driver.
Do not race cars that you know will not give you any challenge since you are wasting gas. Do not streetrace in a crowded area..I want to say at all but that is left to your discretion. Do not be a douchebag and rev on minivans and buses.

They have no way of knowing, but take is easy the first 700 -800 miles.
cant help you with wheel lock in dallas, I would ask the dealer
No smiles are always there, get better with mods
dont get suckered in to racing every idiot thats seen a movie
do get a helmet and gloves and take it to a road course
do have a great time driving a great car
do boost every day, but remember you cango from 0 - arrested in about 8 seconds
do understand that if you hit anything with your car it will be expensive
do be aware where you park your car, never around others
this can go on forever, but respect that ride, but enjoy it, I have owned the VIII ond the IX, you will love it.

DON'T
Don't kill yourself in it.
Seriously.
That car has more in it than most people how to get out of it. It's easy to feel like a hero in an Evo, but it's still a car and will do all the bad things cars do at their limits (such as spin if you get hard on the brakes and turn while at high speed). It's just that the limits are much, much higher in an Evo than in mere mortal cars. So when things go bad, they go real bad.
Don't drive in the snow on OEM tires, or any summer-only tires. Some people have reported success in doing so, but it is really, really not advised. One of the big monthly mags just did a tire test comparision, and they had an AWD car they literally could not get moving on snow while wearing Goodyear Eagle F1s.
DO
Do read this thread. Look at those photos. Then follow this link and look at those photos and read what the OP wrote.
Do get some driving instruction. SCCA Autocross is a good place to start.
Do enjoy driving one of the most high-performance vehicles ever made!

Yea that Audi was like 5 cars ago
Thanks for all the comments Guys. Just some stats, I am a 40 year old Father of four so I take life very preciously. I never ever forget that four young lives will be impacted if something happened to me so I live safe. Well as safe as prudently possible.
Okay so I have no rear badge - no Lancer evolution and no SE badge. I called dealer and was told that the factory sometimes delete them but the dealer will get and install them for free.
Is this true or this is just dealer talk?
Sorry if this is OT but I just wanted to show you a picture of my other car just to demo that I am used to driving safe and watching for others.

Not sure what dealer you spoke to about the break in period, and I'm not sure what the break in period is, but your warranty is with Mitsubishi North America, not the dealership. Like others have said, do what the factory owners manual tells you to do, and you should be OK, even if something goes wrong.
I can't stress enough, and again others have posted this...... the stock Advan tires are SUMMER tires, the lose tremendous amounts of grip in colder weather. They get hard and slide very easily. Oct./Nov. are full of threads of people wrecking their EVO as the weather turns cold and they overestimate what their tires will do. It's worse up north, but Dallas gets cold enough to.
Enjoy the ride!

Hi Guys:
Yah know I never checked if I had wheel lock on that damn car
Regarding tires for winter, is there a specific tire you have in mind? Rims?
Two Thursdays ago I had a slow speed spin out on 635 in my Expedition, of course I do not want a repeat.
Also as far as alarm system what do you Guys favor and also for Lojack is the entry level package good enough and is $695 a good price direct from lojack?
Thanks for the compliment on the Moke
PS: One more thing. So I was inputting my loan stuff in MS Money last night when I got home and the loan payment is wrong by me paying .67 more per month. I tripled checked using different software. Of course .67 cents is no biggie (the principle of the matter though) but what do you Guys think.

wheel locks: you can get them from the dealer, check your window sticker and see if it says your car comes with them. if it does, the dealer is obligated to putting them on your car, as it was stated to include them.
alternatively, you can get them at autozone.
break in periods are sort of a wide ranging opinion. usually it is keep it easy for the first 1000 miles, and the dealer has no way of knowing how hard you drive it.
dos: at mile 1000, sign up for a track day at motorsport ranch. best 150 dollars you will ever spend on your car, bar-none. hang out at the north texas evo club (NTEC) meetings and meet other DFW area events. they are held on the 3rd tuesday of every month.
edit*: the stock advan tires are fine around here. we don't get snow here, and it doesn't matter what tire you get, you still wont get traction on glare ice. recommendation is save the few hundred dollars from buying winter tires, and just don't drive the one day a year we get ice.

From: somewhere testing various tires, brakes, and suspensions.
Welcome and congrats!
1. 1000 mi under the 5k mark, sounds ok - and no they will not know, but welcome to wonderful warranty of an Evo (sarcasm). Be sure to get an oil+filter change when you reach 1000 mi.
2. Dealer/Autozone/online.
3. Its permanent, like Jack Nicholson in Batman.

4. Do read - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/announcement.php?f=61
Do search and read, search more and read more, then search again
+1 on track days - you will be hooked!

welcome to the neighborhood. Evos are the most fun for the money but are very addicting to mod. the smiles never go away just get bigger and bigger with mods. any technacal information is easy to obtain and theres actually an enthusiest club here in dallas. NTEC meets every third tuesday at the chilis on NW Highway and 35 to talk about all the ins and outs of the car. ntexasevos.org is where you can keep up with the local scene
Again, welcome. NTEC would love to have you with us...even before the car is broken in
FYI - Discount Tire can get about any wheel lock you are looking for. Personally, I run McGard spline drive locks.

Sweeeet! You bought an Evo at 40! I bought mine at 38. Welcome to the mid-life crisis club.
Surprisingly, female co-workers around my own age think the car is cool.
How old are your kids? Are they tripping on the car? I can just see them going to school and telling their friends that their father bought an Evo.
Also sweet! When I was in high school I had a friend who worked for a guy who had several cool cars that my friend was allowed to drive. One of the cars was a Moke. I'd never seen nor heard of such a contraption, but, man, was that thing fun to cruise around in.
Surprisingly capable off-road, too.
