Question for San Antonio Evos
Hey guys,
I just graduated from A&M and am going to medical school in San Antonio next year. I dont know where Im going to be living exactly, but itll be a condo in the Health Science Center area. I was wondering what you guys thought of that area as far as crime goes? Im a little hesitant about bringing the evo and parking it outside everyday, especially since Ive never lived in SA and dont know that area. Any info would help!

The problem is that Ill be there for at least 4 years, so Ive heard from everyone that the best thing to do is get a condo....And from what Ive seen in College Station, its rare to find a condo with a garage....
You can find a condo w/ a garage. The NW side where you're staying is where most of the car theft actually occurs...it's where the west side and the northside meet. Not to mention we have all the southsiders coming up to steal the cars and take them back down south.
It's a reality. I live here and park my car in the garage every night. Barring a couple things like work and school, I never take the car anywhere neglible or where I can't see it from a window at least.
Get an alarm if you don't have one already...and find a condo w/ a garage. Hell if you're only going to be here for four years and don't plan on staying just rent a house. Property is cheap here...hell you could probably buy the house and resell it later.

I cant bank on the fact that Ill have a garage, and even then, itll be a daily driver to and from the health science center. SIGHHH

Man--It's not thaaaaat bad--I just didn't want you thinking you were in fairytale land and tell you everything is great and you'll be fine and never have your car messed with.
People that steal cars know imports. They steal cars that are easily parted out; where the parts are easy to unload. I don't think our EVO's rank up there in that department as high as the Honda's as Buddha was saying.
Not to mention that if you don't leave anything in your car to be stolen--it won't be. Unless you have a fancy deck or something.
I just got my evo not too long ago. First thing I did was get the AMS tune on the ECU, then that same day got the alarm. I keep in parked in a garage whenever possible, and that's really all you can do man. You can't live your life or choose your possessions based on fear of losing it. If everyone did that we wouldn't have anything nice. Screw thieves. Put a GPS receiver in it that you can track from your home computer. When you find out where the car went--take a gun over there and clean up shop. Or I suppose you can call the cops and let them know too.....but the first one is much more satisfying.
