I want to register online for the houston autocross, but I dont know what class i suppose to enter under. Here are some mods that may help decide.

CF Hood
JDM Rear bumper
Vortex Gen
255/35/18 Tires on 18x9.5 wheels
Aftermarket fenders +10mm
Aftermarket brakepads
Rear Swaybar
Cusco lower bar type 2
Hotchkis Springs
Turboback(catless), Intake, MBC, Cams, Walbro, Intercooler

I think thats all but can someone help me choose a class to enter in... Thanks.

street modified. both the body work and the cams bump you into that class. basically it is the "unlimited" class. if you have never done it before, ask them if they have a novice class for SM.

evo8RA will have an answer as soon as he sees this. If not, try a PM in a few days. I am pretty sure the cams alone will put you into Super Mod. The tires are street, so, Super Mod Street. I ran my Miata in it. It is an indexed or handicapped class,not head_to_head, running you against any other types of cars, just heavily modded, like yours. In any case, when you show up you can ask the officials, they get it all the time.

Everything above puts you solidly into StreetMod and is legal except the Cusco type2 "boxed" lower bar, in my opinion. The StreetMod rule, para 16.1.G, says the following:

16.1.G. Subframe connectors are allowed, but each connector must be
attached individually without any lateral components attaching the two longitudinal frame rails. Subframe connectors may be bolted or welded. SP allowances which authorize unrestricted mounting of suspension components do not permit the incorporation of non-SP-legal subframe connectors into the
mounting scheme for a Street Modified vehicle.

My interpretation is that the welded box shape of the Cusco Type 2 is not legal. That's why I didn't install it on my own Evo in BSP. You could also post the question about the Cusco Type 2 Lower Bar legality on the StreetMod setup thread to get some "expert" opinions from the people running SM:

I'll be at the Houston National Tour and Divisional. Hope to see you there.

Good luck,

Mark

If you have never autocrossed in SCCA you can run novice until you trophy..or 1 year time limit.

Alternatively you can just run time only ( TO ) No classification for funses.

Just keep in mind that if this is for the Houston National Tour or Divisional, unfortunately, you won't have the Novice class option.

I went down and ran with the Houston region two weeks ago. They are very good group and put on a nice event. I'm sure they will be very flexible with you regarding the rules (like the one Mark pointed out) and won't hassel you much with it being your first time running with them. You are probably legal for StreetMod but to be competitive you will really need R-compound tires. They do though have a Houston-only ST addendum that you could run because you are on street tires. Here's the addendum: http://www.houscca.com/solo/other/Ho...et_Touring.pdf

Your car has STO (Street Touring Other) written all over it.

Have fun!!

SM is what I would put myself in with your mods. I wouldn't really worry to much about competition. Just enjoy it first, then worry about winning later.

I have a friend with just a flash that runs SM and he does very well considering the competition could be almost anything.

SM = street modified
SML = ladies street modified
SM2L = ladies street modified 2
SM2 = street modified 2 (for smaller 2 seater cars like porsches)
not sure what the X designates, but wwhen you register you can always change the class when you arrive at the event. just tell them you were unsure and they point you in the right direction

The "L" suffix is for the Ladies classes. The "2" designator is for 2-seat cars. The "X" class is an indexed class for all the "hot-shoe", very good drivers where they all compete against each other using a PAX index that adjusts classes using a different index value for each class. "X-SM" is for SM cars that compete in the X index class. X-SM is probably not a wise choice for a new autocrosser because this is normally only very experienced drivers in cars that are prepared to near the limit of the class rules in most cases. As Jason mentioned, one of their big advantages will be that they are running R-compound tires that are probably worth "at least" a 2-second advantage over street tires, and possibly much more.

Jason's suggestion for the STO class may be a good one since you will be on street tires.
