Bra, you gotta change the "Drives" in your profile.
Good luck fielding your new ride on the circuit. Can you tell us anything about the mods to your ride and in what class you'll be running?

Well it came with an Injen Intake, Apexi Exhaust, Steel brake lines, slotted rotors, and CF front lip. I'll either run Stock Class or STU Class. I think either the brake lines and rotors (possibly both) put the car out of stock class but I'm not sure (anyone care to comment?). If that is the case then I'll run STU.Good luck fielding your new ride on the circuit. Can you tell us anything about the mods to your ride and in what class you'll be running?

brake lines definitely move you out of stock class. i think the lip will as well. i'll have to review the rules for STU but most of those mods you'll be ok with. i think the brake lines is one of those stupid rules (like how taking the rear seat out puts you in street mod). the exhaust for STU must have a cat though... so if your exhaust is a turbo back with no cat, you'll be moving even further up the class chart. you can always add a high flow cat to compete there if you wanted.
autocross is definately a sport you want to take a look at what class you want to race in, and build the car for the class if you really want to be competitive. if your doing it just for fun and only do it locally, then don't worry about what mods or class your in. i doubt anyone would ever protest you if you had brake lines racing in STU even if it was against the rules. but if you were racing at nationals, you certainly would be protested and DQed.

Brakes lines, lip and intake all bump you out of A-Stock where the evo is classed. However, you do qualify for STU. Arguably the best spot for a street driven evo. You can still do coilovers, camber plates, sway bars, light weight batteries, seats etc. plus any size wheel. though you will be limited to tires with a treadwear rating over 140 and tread width 245 or smaller if u stay in stu.
if you decide you want to up the boost or add an aftermarket clutch or go catless...either of those 3 mods will bump u into BSP. not a good class for novices.

Sounds like STU for me then. I doubt I'll ever go to nationals. It's just for weekend fun.
I do have a cat on it and don't plan to go catless. Though I may get a high-flow cat and maybe a ported stock manifold (or maybe aftermarket manifold) and a tune (I need to talk to you sometime, KevinD). That's about all I really want to do for power. Will that be legal for STU?
I'm definately staying with a stock clutch for warranty purposes.
Coilovers - I'll surely get them someday. But may be a while - maybe next year. I've heard great things about the RobiSpec ones but will have to save up for that no doubt!

Yes all of that is legal. However, the only tuning allowed in STU is Fuel and Ignition timing. You cannont touch boost, wg gate duty cycles or anything else that would change the boost.Originally Posted by Evo_Someday

I would look into a 3"downpipe before the manifold.
FYI, I have a 3" high flow cat I'd be willing to part with.

I've heard that a ported or aftermarket manifold can help by allowing boost sooner. Don't know if that's true.
I didn't mean for this to turn into a modding thread so I'll stop after this one question.. what can I expect from manifold, downpipe, and hi-flow cat? Or should I just skip the minifold because it won't give much? Will I need to tune A/F mix to take advantage of these items?
Ok, you were saying you had a high-flow cat.. can you tell by the pictures if my cat and downpipe are stock? I don't know for sure but they do look pretty stockish.
Thanks for the help.

fyi, that site is the smallest we have in dfw. so if u end up having a bad expierence, dont give up just yet. the good thing is, the site has super grippy concrete.
make sure you air up tires!

That's why it's dumb to mod your evo before you know how to drive it. Out of all the guys with aftermarket clutches and turned up boost that you know, how many would be competitive outside of a stock or STU class?Originally Posted by DEVO330

Power is always the last thing to add.

I would tend to disagree with that statement. Some people want to learn to autocross in a vehicle that is well prepared for the class in which they plan to run. Nothing dumb about that.Originally Posted by RoBear

If I were going to run in the stock class would you suggest I learn on street tires as opposed to learning on R-comps?

Actually yes. Anyone expierenced will tell you start off on street tires. The lower adhesive limit will give you a better feel for how the car is reacting. Allow more time for you to react. And At slower speeds.Originally Posted by Evo_Someday

R-comps will hide many mistakes that most rookies make. I ran my first 1.5 years on street tires in a stock class Subaru 2.5RS. Once I switched to r-comps it still took me an honest 3 or so events to get used to them. It is a far different driving expierence and style. If you can drive smooth and fast on street tires, it will be much easier to do so on r-comps.
FYI, you are defintely running a stock cat and downpipe based on those pics.
