once again, just curious as to why you need an after market ECU? the stock ecu can do almost everything the other ones can, and the few features that systems like AEM and the HKS systems have that the stock doesnt, 90% of people with those systems don't even use in the first place.

plus the stock one can pass emissions

oh and the reason so few people are using the HKS or even the AEM is because the stock ecu is so good... no need to spend so much money to have a tuned car.

The number one reason is the ability to store multiple maps and be able to switch between them in a second. If the stock ECU could do this, I would never have started this thread. As a matter of fact, that is what I'm running right now with my present setup. The car idles and drives like silk, and I passed emissions even with my "test pipe" on. The car is tuned for 93 unleaded. However, every once in a while I use C16. I really wish I could turn up the boost with a race map. However, I just think it's a pain to have to flash your ECU each time - and I don't even know how to do so. Besides, too many variables can go wrong when you're flashing your ECU. I am not a car guru like most of you are on this forum. I'm also the kind of person that likes to have something done, then forget about it. If I can't have it all the time, then I don't want it. In order words, you will not see me using nitrous.

By the way, I thought the big selling point with the HKS F-CON was that you would still be able to pass emissions?

with the stock ecu I m wondering why you are even messing with this F stupid thing? I guess wideband tuning is not enough???? Kevin why do some people mess with these add on's when the stock ecu is so advanced its not like a DSM ecu for petes sake. Maybe its just the flashy name

here i'll help you out a bit:
here is a guy running 2 maps on his stock ecu. with the touch of a button itswitches between the two on the fly.
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...d.php?t=334575

and here is how he did it: you don't need to know the details, but just know that a tuner can set you up with two maps on the stock ecu.

Thanks for the link, Kevin. I'm sure it works great, however this setup just does not appeal to me. No disrespect, but it just looks like a "hack" job.

Are you an authorized HKS dealer, and do you have an in-house dyno?

no offense taken. it is a software hack job in its truest form but physically nothing is as stealth and clean of an install as the original equipment.

i'll leave this one alone though. it seems you are sold on the HKS unit. let me know if you change your mind though (even AEM or autronic i can help you out with, they aren't restricted to authorized dealers).

How far along is the hack to run speed density on the factory ecu. I know some people. Have tried it but when will it be widely available?

^ you can run a greddy profec B on a stock tune without map switching and use a high and low boost. the map switching is for when you use different types of fuels, like C16 or E85.
