Found a good road today up in Oklahoma....

Headed up to visit the inlaws, my wife diligently searched the nav for a good road to entertain me a bit... and she scored.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sadd...4&ie=UTF8&z=13

You turn off on this little road and get through some shacks... and then you're off on a roller coaster ride through the foothills of the Arbuckles. Seriously, you go up a hill, and as you crest it, the road falls out from beneath you (getting a big "Oh ****!" and a wedge on the brakes on the first one). Most excellent start to a twisty drive!

But a couple miles in, what's this? The county has replaced the broken pavement with gravel? No problem... ACD in Gravel, ASC off and push the pedal down! There's gravel on straights, gravel in the turns, trees canopying over the road and just a plain ol' fun time! And then... you look back and there's this huge dust cloud trying to catch up, so you better get after it!

I didn't setup the camera to record, but on the way home on Sunday we'll go back the same way in reverse and see what it looks like on video.

ETA: 110 up to highway 7 wasn't too shabby either

And FYI, OK Highway Patrol uses K and Ka, so if you're in the middle of nowhere and you get a blip of K... slow down. The car in front of me didn't... Sucks to be him.

Cool. If I ever find myself in Nebo with a little bit of time to kill, I'll be sure to head west up E1830 towards Dougherty.

Only thing is -- I have yet to take my car down a gravel road and I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it. My tires do stick out past the body and I can only imagine what would happen to the paint. Weren't you worried about it?

BTW, good luck on the AutoCross tomorrow. Show them how it's done! Win yourself $50. I'm not sure if the contingency is good for any regional event??

worried about some paint scratches? That's what Tim's for .. No really I thought about it, but I'd rather get some scratches having fun than just getting them from normal driving and feeling bad about it.

It is just a car... meant to be driven hard!

JUST a car? No, a Kia Rio is just a car. A Ford Taurus is just a car..

Besides, just how exactly are you suggesting that I drive?

Well I never said I was a better driver -- at least not all the time. I was just defending myself against your horrid insinuation that I don't drive my car hard because I don't gravel it. How you could say such a heartless thing when you KNOW I was driving around on nearly bald tires just 7K miles after I bought the car! :P

What? You're up by one? I only meant to let you catch up.

But next weekend I tell you, I will tie this thing up 4 to 4 and, if you dare to wager, the loser buys the winner a or something else that doesn't cost more than three dollars! That's how confident I am -- but while we're on the topic... do I get a handicap for not having coilovers?

Too bad the best car in OK SCCA won't be there tomorrow. There's an Evo that basically tears up the course, posting the best PAX times (and obviously winning STU). That is SUPER impressive (unless the competition is much weaker, who knows).

^^ Hahah

Either he's really good or everyone else just sucks! Well, if you end up with the top PAX time we'll know for sure.

I can show you some fun backroads around Muenster, they have everything you need for some rally fun! It has always been a dream of mine to do that but s2000 isn't a The turbine site is actually on a very dramatic ridge and I can show you all the fun roads that cross up and down it. I would love to tag along sometime.

You must have one cool wifey to let ya have all that fun while she is in the car!
