licp keeps poping off???

i just got my tune, and upped the boost, and now my coupling from the IC to the LICP (stock coupling, AMS licp) poped off twice, luckily i was going on brake at work and could lift it way in the air.. i tightened the ****t out of the clamps. also tightened the bolt holding the LICP up.. im scared its going to happen again because the coupling is so short..

anyone have this problem? howd you fix it??

whised AMS gave me an extra one of theirs, theirs are impossible to come off.

longer couplers combined with REALLY tight t-bolt clamps. 30psi no popping apart on mine. the O2 falls off before pipes do

Talk to Chad. He picked up his t-clamps for something like $2.50 each. IIRC, the ETS intercooler does come with couplers (2) and clamps (2).

When you install the couplings heat them up real hot with a hair dryer. Install them hot and snug them down. This way you snug em down while they are soft. Cleaning everything with rubbing alky helps too.

just make sure the inside of the coupler is clean, as well as the the mouting point on the pipe you're putting it on... i use rubbing alky... some people even spray Aqua-net hair spray inside the coupler before they put everything together.

anyway, also make sure you have Tbolts clamps, and get some elbow grease and tighten them things down!!! After Tbolts though, you honestly shouldnt have a problem. I go through and check all my connections once a week, i just eye ball them to make sure they're not slipping or anything.

1. I rigged up custom coupling which is basically the stock one cut in half
2. I connected both to an aluminum elbow cut at the right angle and then placed my custom coupling in between the LICP and the Intercooler.
3. I used a few heavy duty zip ties to go around the LICP *BEFORE* the piece that bolts to the frame, and routed them to the right as your facing the car and connected them to something solid on the frame
4. I used some badass T-bolt clamps not available in stores

#3 will work pretty good if you don't want to do the rest.

Also, pull your LICP off and clean the connecting places real well then spray with hairspray before clamping down, let it dry then do any combination of the above steps.

Rinse, and Repeat.

yea that wax was your mistake. to make it slide easier, try the aqua-net hair spray trick i mention in my above post... slide on easy while its wet, then drive a sticks like hell.

damn, he beat me to the hairspray idea...

But seriously, #3 is good for the AMS LICP, something about the way it mounts I think it comes off easier under load... ...maybe?

i can sell you my extra 2.5" t-bolts. all you will need is a 3" for the throttle body and 1.75 for the j-pipe to lower ic pipe. or you can just order them from treadstoneperformance.net or .com. its 3$ a clamp and $5 for silicone couplers. I'm running 29 psi and have no problems what so ever. total cost, $55.00 shipped. for all tbolts and cew couplers
