Question for Texas Toll tag users!!!!

Hello guys,

I am a NYC resident who travels to the DFW area frequently for business and pleasure...

I just recently signed up for a Toll tag pass and just got it in the mail this week. To my disappointment I got the newer version which is a permanently sticking sticker

What I really wanted is the old fashioned one which I can easily transfer from my EVO, to lets say a rental car when I am in Texas.......

what I plan on doing was just holding up the sticker to the windshield as flat as possible to pay my tolls.... but will that work? Has anyone done that???

At the same time I dont want to risk getting into trouble or being fined for violations if this doesnt work though...

However I am aware that I have to update my account to reflect the rental car that I am using if I am not driving the EVO...

Just be careful guys cause I just received my toll tag and I had to call customer service about the placement of the sticker on the front windshield. I have tint strip across the top of my front windshield which would require me to place the sticker extremely low in the middle of my front windshield. Of course I didn't want to have the sticker in the middle, so I called customer service about moving the location from the middle to the top left and she said that was ok just as long as its not behind the tint.

BUT....my whole point....she stated to keep the plates updated on the car because if the tag is not reading, they can atleast track your car through your license plate number.

With her saying that, I would assume you cannot switch the sticker from one car to the other, or like you said from your EVO to your rental car because the system will realize the toll tag sticker doesn't match up with the license plate, thus trouble or fines.

If they didn't do that, theft and misuse of toll tags would run wild on the streets of Texas!

Just given ya'll some thoughts.

I got $475 in charges from my toll tag because I had a O instead of a 0 for my license plate. Thankfully they drop the charges, just make sure you change the license plate associated with your tag before you go on the toll road! You can transfer the plate number instantly online, just make sure you do.

No, you can switch between rental cars and other cars in your household as long as you update your tag and vehicle information on the www.ntta.org website or by calling customer service. For me though I guess I'll have to call customer service once I get my rental cars plate number, make and model when I arrive at DFW airports car rental counter.....

I also forgot to post it, but in college, I stuck my parking pass on to a transparency then cut it out so I could easily transfer vehicles.... worked great and was easy. I just stuck it to the window with scotch tape...

I did something similar, but instead of taping it to the window, I had one of those badge pockets used for ID Badges and a suction cup..

But like everyone else mentioned, you can change the license plate number online whenever you move the tag.. I don't know if being mismatched is an automatic fine, but better safe than sorry.
