Paint wheels...? paint guys( cough TNT cough)
whats the fastest most cost effitive way to paint my wheels black....i dont care to powercoat cause i know they will just chip up any way. i was thinking sand them down a little, then use flat black spray paint(couple of layers) then a couple of layers or clear coat? should that be good enough?

I painted my wheels on my first gen..... And I waiting till I have a chance to go get my evo wheels powder coated.......
It was a HUGE PITA having my painted wheels on my first gen.... they chipped like crazy and looked like crap so I would repaint them about every 2 to 3 months.... it was terrible..... just my experience....maybe others have had better luck.... Im not painting mine and I want black wheels BAD!

It's easier than you think.
- Just take the wheel/tire off.
- Clean it real good and sand off the outer layer with fine paper
- Use masking tape and newspaper to cover the parts you don't want to paint (tires)
- Carefully spray it in multiple thin layers in a protected place (I used my garage) so it doesn't get bugs, grass, leaves in it..
I didn't even clear coat. Just used gloss enamel. Held up fine.

wasnt there just another post about this this morning?? anyway sand em down, clean em up, automotive primer, then you can use some high temp paint ( caliper or ive heard of people using BBQ paint) or regular spray paint and then clear coat.

Ya I've painted wheels before (sand/scuff everywhere well with like 400 grit paper, put on 2 thin coats of primer [first shouldn't totally cover the original color], then 3-4 thin coats of color and 2 coats of clear).
Wheels looked good 2-3 years later when I traded the car in. Only chips were where the alignment deal was hooked up and around the lug nuts from rotating the tires.

I use the wheel paint that you can buy at autozone. Its a couple bucks more than cheap krylon at wal-mart, but I think it works better (for a rattle can).
I have talked to Tim about doing it and he can't guarantee against no chipping, but he will paint them for you
You might need a second set of wheels/tires though for everything to dry up nicely.

^^^^ wher do you live?? i goto NT and live here in denton. i really want to do this....cause i think it will look sick on a Red RS......cause i got 20% tint, black door handles, and black side mirrors...i think the black rim will set it off....
There is a really good DIY write-up on the forums. I've painted two sets of wheels using those instructions and there are no scuffs/chips 1.5 years later. For the first set, I didn't use primer. For the second, I used primer. No difference in look or strength (from chipping). Remember, if you mess up the paint, you can always sand it down and do it again. Go for it.
