You know what though? Mazda 3's are cheap and really great cars, brand new. You might go check one out before buying a $10k unknown... a $15k new 3'er is a nice ride.
well for a DD a cheap 4cyl 6 you could find for under 8k. if its for the wifey, they are definatly nice little 4 doors. i think they look very nice, and are definatly great cars.. and the same with the 3s, i just like the 6s more

my girlfriend almost got a 6 for like 7500, but her parents thought it looked too "hood rat ish" because it was black with black w/ pol lip wheels... apparently thats ghetto... sorry!

Mazda 3 versus Mazda 6

Fuel Economy - Mazda3 Wins
Lower MSRP out the door - Mazda3 Wins
Handling - Mazda3 wins - it is lighter and has tighter turning radius
Seating Capacity - Tie - same number of seats
Comfort - Tie - both have almost identical headroom and legroom
Power - Mazda6 wins with a bigger engine but comes with a trade-off in fuel usage

I used to own a Mazda3 Hatch. It's a nice car and never gave me 1 bit of trouble in all the 70K miles I owned it. Always ran perfectly and the 2.3 is not slow either.

I'd recommend it.

How bout this: http://www.vanhyundaionline.com/inde...lvo_V70%202.5T

(Disclosure: My BIL works at Van Hyundai and I was talking to me and he sent the link).

Edit: he thinks the volvo is sold, but wants to sell this car pretty badly:

It's a bit more than you wanted to spend though :-/

the corollas are ok..but i'm also trying to atleast get something that's appealing to the eye. i'm leaning more on those p5's coz they look nice, wouldn't mind taking pictures of 'em with the evo , plus we can go shopping with them or picnics with the whole family and not have to take the v8 armada (we can save that car for long drives)

If you like wagons check out used Volvos. I'd never buy a new Volvo, they depreciate like crazy, but once they are a 3-5 years old you can find some great bargains.

These cars get 200K easily if cared for. You just need to be mindful of each models quirks. Here's my 2000 V40. This was the first year they brought this model to the US. The suspension is finicky in this year (still is noisy), but she has always run like a top! It's a 1.9 turbo. I get about 24 in the city and 30+ on the highway. You might also check out the full size wagons as well. Anything older than a teenager would not be comfortable in the back seat of this car.

You should easily find a newer model with 50-100K miles for $8K or less.

I think that that type of car is fine, but I certainly wouldn't buy that one.

Would you buy an Evo with that junk on it? Even for $2k less than an unmolested one?

ETA: I don't know about your wife, but mine wouldn't drive a car like that. And I'm guessing with the exhaust and headers that that is one loud raspy sounding car... and she isn't going to be hauling the kiddo around in that.
My Evo has a Tanabe

my buddy ran a carfax on it...passed with flying colors. but i'm still contemplating on whether to get it or not. even if it got ragged on, it couldn't be that bad..i'm changing it back to stock tails when i get it anyway, plus it's a daily driver for my wife and me so i'm pretty sure we'll get by driving it.
