Southern Guys, which Intake should I get?

I have been debating on which intake to get. The choices are either the AMS intake or the Buschur intake.

AMS Intake first:

http://www.amsperformance.com/store/...oducts_id=1873

Pros:

1. Cleans up the engine bay by moving the BOV to the front (less pipes running all over the engine bay)

2. Moves the air fliter further away from the engine and more out of the way from the radiator fan (when it kicks on and blows hot air into the intake)

3. Looks good

Cons:

1. The default intake comes WITHOUT breather bungs for the crank case and the boost control solenid. Do I really need them anyway?

2. To add the breather bungs listed above is $50.00 more dollars

3. More expensive compared to the Buschur Intake without the heat sheild.

Buschur Intake:

https://secure.buschurracing.com/cat...e5ac1b5ea9d0ed

Pros:

1. Cheaper than the AMS

2. I like the brushed look

3. Bolts completely on with all breather bungs

Cons:

1. Sits further back in the engine bay than the AMS which will probably require the carbon fiber heat sheild which in turn will bring the total price higher than the AMS even with the breather bungs (by 4 dollars, if I really need those breather bungs)

2. I like the brushed look, but with the pipe being so small, will you really be able to see it?

3. Does not clean up the engine bay like the AMS does (moving the BOV up front)

So guys, between the two, which one would you get? and why?

Thanks.

HKS SMF!! the stock piping is good for alot of HP, and the smf is just a maf adaptor and filter for 1/2 those prices.. i think HKS intakes look sweet, and sound sweet!

I know you can add just a filter with a MAF adapter for super cheap, but I'm leaning towards a more "finished" look. I will either buy the AMS or the Buschur, nothing else, just need a little advice from everyone on which one to get. Thanks.

not having crankcase breathers can be bad news with high boost, however, where the hoses go, you can go to autozone and buy tiny filters that you can throw on them. their only a few bucks and will really save your tail.

id go with buschur tho. it sounds like its a little better.. just because it might sit back further dosnt mean your going to lose alot of HP because of heat.. if your IC is good itll make up for intake temps..

if you are truly worried about intake temps, and want to save money, go buschur, and go to a junk yard and pull off some heatsheilds above a cat on any car. and make one yourself.. save you bookoos of $$$

I will probably never upgrade my turbo becasue as of now, my tranny can't handle too much of an increase in horsrpower and torque (I have a 08 MR) Maybe I will if companies ever come out with Heavy Duty Clutch Packs for the SST, but thats so far down the line an intake now wouldn't matter.

As for intake temps, really not to worried about them, I was just stating the obvious about the two intakes.

I know Buschur Racing has a great repuatation among EVO owners, does AMS not?

both are probly the top of the evo market.. correct me if im wrong, but buschur has the fastest evo in the 1/4 and AMS has the quickest.. both running around 8.4s. you definatly will not go wrong with either shop.. but with AMS, you will pay for the little AMS sticker that comes with it..

honestly, buschurs is pretty cheap compaired to others.. for 209 i would totally get that over AMS. no point in spending extra money for something rarley seen

Buschur, it is shorter, simpler and it puts the filter higher in the cooler air comming under the gap between the core support and the hood, if you look this is the same area the stock snorkel thing gets its air from. You want the bungs if you are on the stock ecu, all the air that comes out of these vents its already been accounted for in the computer, therefore the car will lose response, starting and idle quality if these are just vented to the air. Will venting these cause major problems...... NO, but we are all about "optimizing" our cars, so anything you can do to keep things running smooth and at its best, DO IT! (Im currently designing a proper catch can to take care of the oil particulate, buschur offers one which he just came out with, if you want to go that rout, but it is not absolutely necessary.

As for the HKS suggestion, if you are planning on running a HKS filter, you might as well not run a filter at all...... see the link

Just my $0.02

that is the 2 layered wet filter they are talking about.. the 4 layered dry filter is a little more restrictive, but catches more than the oily filter.. with the HKS filters they are good, but dont last long.. as long as you keep it clean, and replace every 2nd or 3rd oil change it shouldnt be a problem..
sorry off topic.. just gotta defend my HKS!
not to mention the apexi FILTER alone is 134. the hks filter is about 25 to replace.

I bought a K&N drop-in for my car. Didn't notice much of a change at all. I was considering the AEM intake and then decided to buy a house so that will have to wait.

If your still in the shopping phase you should check out the new perrin intake. I recently purchased two items from them (intake and intercooler) after doing lots of reading. They're a great company to deal with and the products are top notch! Even if you go with something else, do yourself a favor and check it out.
