What's Wrong With My IX MR's Tranny?
it sounds like the same problem i had on my car,(lancer not a evo)but mine was from 1st to 2nd.i started a few days earlier, but when i got it in,they had to replace the synchros and 1st and 2nd gear cuz they were too damaged.mine was under warrenty, but the clutch wouldnt do that,so you might wanna take it back and be a little more forceful

......And I say this because they (the dealer) said I do have a transmission problem.....and they didn't say it was anything else specifically. The only option they gave me was to pay $800.00 to have them open my tranny up to see what exactly the problem is.....But I know that I'm not going to pay that kind of money, especially when they make it sound so pleasant and normal. (I hate that very much about the Mitsu dealership......And plus, I don't need the negative attitude from them either).

Replace the fluid, GM syncromesh, you can get it at O'reilly's, its made by Pennzoil. Also, a solid front engine mount makes a huge difference in shifting, and I would recommend that even if it turns out the tranny needs a rebuild. I would recommend shep for the tranny rebuild should it need it, but I would start with a fluid change, and a solid front motor mount.
When I first got my car, I could hardly get into second gear.... and it made a definite "rip" feeling going in other gears as well. I put the solid motor mount in and now it shifts perfect, and people that have driven my car even have commented on how nice it shifts.....
I'm probably not as knowledgeable as you are on cars, but isn't the clutch a part of the transmission in the vehicle.?. .....I would think so, but I'm not positive..[/
the clutch is a part of the tranny, but what you have is most most likley a internal problem, like mine was.i had mine checked by a mechanic i could trust before i took it in,and when they started talking about the clutch,i told them it had already been cleared by a licensed mechanic, and it all checked out,so they wernt gonna try to play it off as my fault.you should try the same see if it helps

I bought my IX MR brand new just under 2 years ago, and it has been such a blast to drive every chance I get. The car is just so awesome and I am literally addicted to it. I try to take care of my Evo to the best of my abilities.............But for the last few months, I feel that somethings going wrong with my Evo. When I decide to go full throttle, every thing seems good, but when I get to shifting from 3rd gear to 4th......It feels like a "RIP". I mean it doesn't feel like the same fluid/smooth feel like shifting from the other gears. It only feels this violent/abnormal when I shift "quickly" from 3rd to 4th and only between those two gears and no other. In other words, it feels good and OK when I'm shifting normal and slowly between 3rd and 4th..... But it feels harsh when I'm accelerating aggressively and shifting quickly between those two gears. I took my Evo to my local Mitsubishi Service dealer and the service technician was very negative like he's always been. He still had his mechanics take a look at it. After the dealership was done testing my car, the service tech said that there is definitely something wrong with the transmission and it'll cost $800.00 to open it up and see what the problem is. It's not covered under warranty he said because I replaced the clutch with an ACT clutch and not a Mitsubishi clutch. Can anyone give me advice on what's going wrong with my IX MR's 6 speed transmission? Thank you for any help possible.

the main problem with the 6 speed is the heat which causes the failures. if you track your car all the time its wise to invest on an oil cooler. if you will rebuild your tranny and still want to have the extra gear you can have it rebuilt by tre.
Actually the 1st & 2nd gear on a 6 speed is more stout that the 5 speed if you have seen the gears. its the 4-6 that is a bit thin. if you are planning on going over 500hp then go for a 5 speed.

Nice point Andrew. I have never had a problem shifting from 1st to 2nd and then from 2nd to third, but I've constantly had problem every so often when shifting from 3rd to 4th (I do mostly city driving so I don't get a chance to go 5th and 6th gears very often. And I hate to say this but I don't even want to think of rebuilding the transmission. I haven't even gotten into serious modifications with the car and I hate to find out that my tranny is already falling apart....At least I don't think it is.

yeah. hopefully your tranny is still ok. if you haven't changed your fluids try those first. since that is the easiest. try a different fuild that oem. with oem my gears are a bit notchy from 1st to 2nd. you can try this. you can also try adjusting your clutch pedal.

Yeah, I really don't think my transmission is falling apart. I think it's just a shifting problem and nothing too serious. I saw the info on the link that you gave me and I thank you for it. That fluid for the tranny is something I can truly consider. I had my tranny fluid replaced when Kevin D. did my clutch work for my Evo....and everything was perfect afterwards, even the shifting. Kevin invited me this coming Saturday, so I'm sure I'll be in very good hands. Thanks very much for your help Andrew.
