I'm glad I went with the 6 speed. I'm at about the highest level of power I plan on taking my Evo while still a daily driver, and the closer gearing makes a world of difference on the track. If I had to do it over again, the only thing I'd do different is move to Cresson and get a membership at MSR instead of spending money on mods!

I've heard that the 6 speed is better for the track also, but we always know that the Evo attracts so much attention to modifications...And that is extremely difficult to ignore, given the fact that the Evo has so much potential. I guess you're right in modding your 6 speed MR to the point where it's not over-done, and won't hurt the car by providing just a bit better balance of power. Thanks for your reply "mrMTB."

Funny eh! Don Herring will let you do anything to your car as long as you pay. If you try to go back for warranty though good luck. I brought my car there once to get paint done (after vandals got to it) and when I got it back the CEL had turned on. Man was I pissed. Anyway, I'll never take it there again.

I'm having the same 3&4 shifting problem. No grinding, just very hard to get into those gears. I don't know enough about the internals to comment but it almost feels like the bushings are worn or something. So I took the battery out and disconnected the shift cables and tried shifting by moving the shift arm by hand and still felt the stiffness (and this is with the car not running). So there must be something bent inside or just not aligning. Would probably need to take it apart to see what the heck is going on.

Give Buscher a call and ask him what he thinks of ACT....you'll get an earful!!! I put an ACT in mine as well and he suggested that that's probably why I'm having tranny probs. He said Exedy all the way. Anyway too late for me now.

Also, be careful abt tranny fluid. Seems like everyone I spoke with (including Buscher) said to stick with the Diaqueen. Pricey but good. It's supposed to be compatible with copper parts inside the tranny or something. Again, don't know first hand just regurgitating what I read.

Cheers,
Dan

I would recommend shep for the tranny rebuild should it need it, but I would start with a fluid change, and a solid front motor mount.

When I first got my car, I could hardly get into second gear.... and it made a definite "rip" feeling going in other gears as well. I put the solid motor mount in and now it shifts perfect, and people that have driven my car even have commented on how nice it shifts.....
I'm confused. When I called Works they also mentioned that maybe the motor mounts should be changed. For the life of me I can figure out why motor mounts would have anything to do with shifting? If it is motor mounts, then where is the undue pressure being caused by the worn out mounts? I can't be between the tranny and engine since those are firmly mated. So how do you benefit from motor mounts?

Might want to read up on this before using it in a six speed.

I have a 5 speed. So then this advice is not for a 6 speed tranny. I had no idea that there was a difference.

Motor mounts absolutely make a difference in shifting. As the engine moves while you're revving the engine up, it causes the shift linkage to not work correctly (leverage, angles, etc.). By firming up the engine to it's not rocking so much, your shifting experience is better. Of course, the trade off is that you feel the vibrations in the cabin more.

Ok that make sense...I guess. I suppose my problem isn't motor mounts though because I have a difficult time putting in 3/4 even when the engine isn't running. Maybe that's why I was confused because i did mention that to the Works guy and he still said maybe it's your engine mounts. I may experiment a bit by jacking the car up and moving the engine around in the bay with another jack to see if it makes any difference.

thx

i know for a fact that gm syncromesh will make a world of a differance for this issue.... and by the way, as a dealer tech, myself, dont take their bs.... flate rate dealer techs are the worst to deal with... we only care about the hours we make... try the gm syncromesh fluid, if that doesnt work, you have a legit claim against mitsu

I wish it wasn't the case, but the fives are tougher and hold more tranny fluid so different options open up.

my synchros went out too, that sounds like what your problem is.
I took it to Don Herring and it was covered under warranty even though I have an ACT clutch. I dunno where you got yours or if you got the same warranty but you should look into taking it to Don Herring

Man who buys an Evo and DOESN'T put performance parts on it

You're right though...most Mitsu dealers are more than happy to see you put mods on so that they can later blame everything on the mods should you bring it in (even if it has nothing to do with the mod).

"Oh, your wipers don't work eh! I see you have an aftermarket exhaust. Too bad...not covered under warranty "

This may sound like an exaggeration but based on my experience with Don Herring it wouldn't surprise me one bit.

I'm happy for you. I wish I got the same treatment when I went there. Like I said though...once you drop cams in the car it's game over afa warranties go

If I can't sell the car first I guess I'll send my tranny to Shep
