Engine builder or tuner? Even the best engine builds won't survive a ****ty tuner. Turning the knock sensor off is a big no-no.

couple things:

the shop that built the car is not on this forum. they are local, and not big in evos. they do pretty work though, which is why i couldn't believe they did this to this car.

the motor was completely stock from what i can tell, but i do know for sure they had the oil pan off at one point in time because the sealant they used was black, felt like tar, and was all over the bottom (not the nice OEM gray stuff). other then the stock internals, it had a cosworth head on it (which denver and i found humorous because the intake manifold was not port matched and the plastic gasket for the intake manifold was smaller then the ports on the head ).

when we put the stock ecu back on it, i put a base tune from a car with similiar mods, but the motor lasted only 100 ft. setting the wastegate arm back to being shut caused the boost to jump a ton (pegged the boost gauge, even with overboost protection on, it was instant) even with the boost controller turned off (with ZERO preload). i think this was the reason they had it propped open. they knew something was wrong with the wastegate but failed to tell anyone or fix it. instead they propped it open to control the boost. cylinder 4 had the broken piston top, which was causing the spark plugs to break every mile i beleive (thus the low compression).

it was a stock motor mitsubishi was the builder i guess the shop did replace the head with the cosworth head, but that had nothing to do with the failure. all the internals were stock. i still don't know why the oil pan had been off before, thats a questions for cosworthevo1133 or evobz.
