Anyone In houston that can help me?
Well I am new to Evos, and piston cars. so I do apologise if I sound like a total Newbie lol. I just need help to figure what is the problem, wether its the Transmission or Transfer case.
Symptoms:
Well if I am on first gear as soon as I move 0-5ft it sounds like I lock up and I cant move foward anymore at all, but as I put it on reverse it sounds like it unlocks or something like that and im able to move again for like 5ft lol.
Once again I appreciate everyones suggestions, comments, or If anyone is able to come look at the car, I really do..
Thank you once again

sounds like your differential is broke, and only works for nearly a full revolution until you get to the broke part of the diff. putting it in reverse spins it the opposite direction until you get to the broken part of the diff again. check the diff in the transfercase, its likely your culprit.
But it also goes more than 5feet sometimes, maybe 10feet or so and them It locks until i go reverse just enough to hear it unlock and I go foward once again. So do you think its the differential? I am so hoping that it is the differential!!!
I dont hear no grinding or anything like that what so ever, It goes into the gears real Smooth! like butter lol sorry for the analogy lol.

ok, well it sounds like your tranny is ok. i would disconnect the driveshaft going to the rear (only 4 12mm bolts). then lift back of the car in the air, and try spinning both rear wheels forward at the same time (it will take 2 people). if they both roll forward together for more then one revolution your rear differential is ok. if the rear diff is ok, pull the transfercase out because its prolly the front differential in the transfercase. i've seen broken differentials in the transfercase before. i've got one at my house right now that i will be playing with tonight, i'll formulate a good way to test if it is the front diff or center diff for you. i beleive it can be done by just disconnecting the rear diff and spinning the front wheels forward at the same time, but i'm not sure if that will force the center diff to spin as well. if it does, theres no way of telling without taking the transfercase off. give me a call tonight, like around 10pm (number is in my sig). i should have a troubleshooting method for you, and how to fix it. the good news is, if it is the front diff, it is easy to fix, and as long as the ring and pinion are ok, it wont cost very much to fix.

im in houston and i own a 7 also, but i dont think i can help you, my t/c went bad and i HAVE the EXACT same problem, it clunks when you roll a little bit right? and it feels like your gonna snap something when it does. as for me, its going to the shop tomorrow and i might pick up a used tc if needed and get mine rebuilt by sheps or teamrip

Yeah Last night I was messing with it and had some tranny guy look at it and he instantly said that its the TC. SO is it cheaper to rebuild the TC or is it just better to buy another one??
a new transfercase will set you back in the neighborhood of 2500 dollars. a used transfercase possibly 1500 (big risk hoping the ring and pinion are ok in it, if not your buying another new one). however, if you take it apart, and find the differential is the only thing wrong with it, a new diff is cheap, especially an open diff ( i can sell you one for a hundred dollars). but i would definately be sending it to shep to have him rebuild it if the diff is the only thing wrong with it. he can build it into a stage 2 transfercase for i beleive 8-900 dollars, then it will have a limited slip diff and les likely to break.
Really? wow that is awesome. I would so do that... especially for 900.. I am taking the car to the mitsubishi dealership today to find out EXACTLY whats wrong with it. plus they are only charging me $75. SO Il take that you know.
Yeah I asked the Service Manager and he stated that he would be able to tell me if the TC is rebuildable. Bc if it is then il just send it to the shop that you guys were telling me about.
