Texas Inspection

ok well I went to go take my Eclipse to get inspected.

They failed it!

I have no power steering and they said that it was required to pass inspection.

I looked up the TDPS and this is what I found

Find someone who's an inspector who will pass you.

you don't need power steering to pass, that's BS.

Your car can't be throwing any codes though (they hook it to the computer). The problem you have is that your failure is in the system.

I didn't think you needed PS to pass. That link you posted says all these things assuming you have power steering, so it's sort of unclear. Print/email that and call/send it to them and complain. I would throw a fit dude, especially if I had to pay for an inspection I failed.

Yea I have never heard of the need for power steering to pass but then again I'm not from around here. This I found interesting though "The obstruction would include tires too large or damaged fenders that would interfere with a full right or left turn." sucks for Donks i guess lol.

Just try a different place. It would suck if you had to pay for a failed inspection - but since you don't, you can just cruise to the next shop.

Maybe this is it... your DSM had power steering? NOTE: On vehicles equipped with power steering, the engine must be running and the fluid level, belt tension, and condition must be adequate before testing.
Sounds like if you had PS then you need PS to work.

You dont need P.S. to pass. You however can not have any leaks in the system.

PS. Please do not freaking post names of people that are LICENSED ST. INSPECTORS whom help out other Evo owners. THEY are breaking the LAW. Understood?

He absolutely will FAIL YOU if your car isn't legal. I have talked to him about it in the past. It simply isn't worth it to him to break that particular law. And honestly for Evo's it's not that hard to make your car legal anyway.
