Noise Level with high horsepower?

I'm curious how loud Evo's are when they get to the 350-400whp mark. (I assume most likely that by that time a person will have removed the cat?). Specifically how loud are they at freeway speeds? (What is that for an evo, like 3200-3300rpms at 70mph?). I like the sound of the stock exhaust as it sounds like a deep noise, but is it obnoxious later on?

Thank you for any response or advice you can give.

I've had the same exhaust since the car was nearly stock and now at nearly 400whp. The only thing that made the car louder is the cams, not the actual power output.

Agree - whp does not make it louder, mods selection does.

I don't see how horsepower output correlates to noise. If the motor isn't under load it's not going to be obnoxiously loud.

Noise inside the car is really pronounced if you get stiffer engine mounts, especially the front one. With an aftermarket clutch you're treated to all kinds of interesting noises feeding back through the mounts.

As for exhausts I have both Buschur (bullet) and the AMS exhausts and found that they were too loud for my tastes. I like to be able to hold a conversation in the car on the highway. Both of these exhausts were just fine with a Magnaflow muffler section added to them. An open dump of course makes the car really loud but only when you get on it. Your car doesn't have to be loud to be powerful. The Magnaflow 5x9x18 oval muffler fits with some work btw and makes the car quiet but serious sounding.

You want a nice deep tone but sensible sounding exhaust you go with a oerrin stealth exhaust. I have the perrin and I'm happy w/ the sound.

actully hp can play a roll on sound......1200hp evo = loud ....but thats a 4" pipe off the hotside haha

but no, hp does not make your car louder....like stated the mods you choose do.

i have a 3" downpipe, 3" catback (no resonators), 3" HKS muffler (gutted) and its loud outside......queit inside.

for the most part evos are more noisy outside then inside, some exhaust will give you cabin drone thou.

lol i agree with the op i rather have nice power but be mild in sound not loud and annoying ill pass on that. My 3" Perrin downpipe 3" invidia exhaust no Cat is great and sounds are mild. Nice deep tone and even when i get on it still not blazing loud. nice rumble. Now i got my true dual exhaust on my 350z and it sounds great i added downpipes and it was screaming loud inside and outside of cabin. It was so loud i had to uninstall the downpipes because it drowned out my evo i could tell prolong use would end with me getting a headache after driving everytime and i could tell it was annoying neighbors. Nice Tone mild sound FTW

The exhaust on my mr2 drones at freeway speed but otherwise is pretty quiet, of course the engine is right behind my head. Horsepower can equal louder depending on mods. I was curious if it was possible to get a 350-400whp without being extremely loud and annoying. I think you guys have answered it.
