Evo 8.5 a success
Evo 8.5 a success
So I finally got the evo running after 4 months of downtime pulling the old motor out. It's got a IX motor now with 20k-ish miles, GSC S1 cams, Mixmatch turbo kit consisting of an ETS equal length manifold, precision 58 trim ball bearing turbo, and Boost Logic o2/downpipe. Also swapped to the 03 transfer case, kept the fairly new ACT HDSS from the same motor, and kept my evo 8 5spd. It's badass. I used the evo 9 ecu and harness.
I got the car tuned by Jorge (Nissan2Evo) at JMS Racing in San Antonio, and wow. I brought the car to these guys limping in and barely idling, and running very sloppy and awkward. It was bad. Unlike a lot of tuners/shops, they worked out the kinks with me. They didn't throw their arms up and say it's not tune-able. It needed serious tweaking and it got it. These guys really know their stuff by now. Seems like they have a club of evos ready for 9's and 8's in the future- No joke. I am picky about who I let touch and drive my car, and I will be returning to the JMS shop very soon. The car is running like new as of now. This was all on stock 9 ecu.
If you are in the San Antonio/surrounding area, do yourself a favor and give these guys a try for your evo wrenching and tuning needs.
I am surprised. Shocked actually, that the car came out this good. It's a raw monster at 20-22psi and screams like a bat out of hell. It's faster than it's ever been and it feels brand spanking new. I am going to hit the track soon and see what she can do.
Huge thanks to Jorge and the rest of the guys at JMS Racing, and of course my Austin buddies Sievers and Prokid for all their work on this car. All the hard work has really paid off.

The fellas at JMS ALWAYS take care of my evo like it's their own. From the clutch install to the multiple tunes I've gotten, I've never had any issues with this car
. The "Master" wrenchers over there know what it takes to produce a quality, fast, and well built evo! I'm most def. looking forward to the future of my evo in JMS' hands and also for those 150mph traps by Nissan2evo's "Black Mamba"
Thanks Kevin. I know we made a couple desperate phone calls to you with questions on this project too, and you always came through. I really appreciate that.
Dude I am ready...Let me know.

Thanks for the confidence in JMS Racing to help get your Evo 8.5 beast in the right direction Jake. Your Evo turned out to be a real beast..and to think it's on it's lowest settings right now
Let us know when you're headed to the track, we'll definitely be out to support!
