Dell Diamond has decided no more AutoX events will be held there.
So the next Spokes event, on 10/19, will be held at Techridge and will be open to everyone.
Heopfully some of you guys will show up. It'd be fun to see Evo's in all different states of tune now. Works reflashes, Power FC's, Vishnu tunes, etc. I'll be there with my bone stock Evo.

Word on the Spokes list was that the paving company for the Dell Diamond suggested that they not have any more events like that on their parking lot.
On the plus side, I think we still got a bunch of new cones out of it.

QAT-R: It was supposed to be members only when we were having it at Dell Diamond. Since we lost Dell and it's going to be at TechRidge instead, then they opened it back up to everyone.

For everyone attending this Sunday's event, I suggest that you do some homework by viewing the course map at the link below. I thought it would be fun to try something a bit different than the usual and yes, its a bit gimmicky. The good news is that its a great course for big fat cars, and for small, skinny ones. Its really about fifty courses in one, aptly named "Choices, Choices". I suspect it will generate much discussion on optimal line.
But first, a word of explanation. There are three basic sets of choices. You can run the ramp area (near the building) either direction (assuming we can do so safely). Second, the slalom on the crossover is optional as to the side of the first cone you start on.
The big set of choices is on the runway. Basically, you can find anyway down the runway and back that fits through the alternating gates. It starts with a gate in the middle, then three gates, then a single gate again then three, etc. And there's a few cones to keep you from just driving straight down the middle. A few of the possible lines are shown on the map, but there are others, and you can always combine them. Just go all the way down, turnaround, and all the way back, passing through a gate in each wall.
Big fat cars (V?) may wish to take the wide, swooping offset line, trading off speed for extra distance. Skinny cars (Tak?) may wish to run the "slalom" line, wiggling in/out of the cones down the middle. And there's two intermediate lines than combine elements of both. Any combination of lines that passes through one of the gates in each wall is a legal path.
Note that the turnaround is blind. You pass through a gate in the final wall, turnaround and come back through any gate. Make sure and think about entry and exit plans for both the turnaround and the exit to the finish chute.
Have fun!!

Looks interesting. It's still a slalom down the runway, like we always have at TechRidge, but at least this adds some variety to it. I think it should be fun. The best part is that you can't DNF the slalom as long as you don't go off course or plow through a wall of cones.

That course was a blast! Rafal showed us AWD'ers the way in his STi. I got a really good run in to finish 4th overall in PAX.
Hey Iodine? Would you be interested in letting me X your car in the next event? I'd really like to get a feel of the Evo and STi before buying one of them next year.

AustinTX, I was working the course during your runs ...really smooth and you were fast...as usual. Congratz!!! Rafal had kind words about your autox skills. It will be interesting to have you in AS next season along with Rafal ...
Iodine did well on his first run, and I figured he'd improve but got coned on all his subsequent runs.
MP5... lots of power
... he won't be AS next year...
I was not very happy with any of my runs (timewise)
, but it was a blast of fun experience-wise (a slalom in 3rd gear at 65mph will do that). I always took the wrong side of the last slalom cone before the lights (never took notice of that fact til I started working the course and seeing everyone take the other side), was too deep in the turn around (is 50 feet far enough!!!)...I plowed through the cone wall after the lights (I did not lift...was mad at myself for taking the wrong side...again). Does all this bring back memories of this course? Essentially, I was clueless as to how Rafal did that time... I tell you, I've got a steep hill to climb next year ...
I will be at the drivers edge at TWS, along with MP5 in november, so will miss the last Spokes event.

John: I don't see why not... you just might have to drive on some ragged old Kumho MXs.
Of course Kevin and I were turning our reasonbly good times (discounting cones/dnfs) on those tires. I think that Iven and Rafal were both on race tires. So for Kevin to be about 1 second off Rafal is a good testament to the Evo's handling I think.
I do have to admit, Rafal looked awesome out there. I was working the slalom for his runs too.
