I am stationed at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana with Illinois plates, and cops can't do anything about the plate not being upfront but i still keep it in my windshield. [/B]

Wind shield mounting (at least in Texas) is a worse ticket than not having the front plate as it is a possible danger. As DeeezNuuuts83 said, in an accident, acceleration or hard turning it can become airborne. I had originally mounted mine to my dash with a bit of double stick tape (apparently not enough, or with the heat it became less sticky) and while doing an impromptu test and tune for auto-x my plate disconnected from the dashboard mid slalom and flew out the window. An interesting mixture of funny and scary considering it flew right by my neck/head, and very distracting heh. I know I should have removed it before doing anything like that but at the time I was not thinking heh, and that same day I switched to a front bumper DIY mount.

One thing alot of guys around here do is attach it to the passenger side visor, again its probably going to get you a ticket but at least it is safer than just putting it on the dash.

I ended up buying a generic license plate bracket from O'Reilly, attaching that to the mesh on the drivers side and then screwing in the plate to it. It functions and didn't put any holes in my bumper, and as far as I know it doesn't really block airflow to any radiators, though it does restrict airflow to the ACD pump.

I was considering switching to a beatrush mount (which looks a lot better than the OEM mount). But it does require drilling holes in the bumper, and moves the plate to a more OEM location, which isn't bad.

There is already multiple threads about this. But 3m double sided tape works well. Even lasted through 10+ snowboarding trips to tahoe.

I've been ticketed years back several times while my car was parked in chicago for the license plate in the windshield and not on the front.

tack weld one side of it to the intercooler and bend it around the plastic pillar of the bumper, that way it will hold and only interupt airflow minimally.

Personally I don't have a plate, usually if I get pulled over its for alot worse and it gives the officer an excuse to write me a lesser ticket.

I've been in San Antonio for almost 3 years with no front plate and have yet to be pulled over because of it, so I say toss it in your toolbox like I did.

The Texas law only states that the plate is visible from the front of the vehicle. There is nothing in the current law that excludes windshield mounting.

Having said that,
There have been some instances of small town cops liberally interpreting the law, but rest assured they rarely actually cite you for it, and if they do, you have a good change of beating it in court.

So, do you have a better shot? I think I like it--nice close mount but what is it (whats it off of) and where can I find it--exactly how is it mounted? Thx

I have it on my windshield and get pulled over every 1 or 2 months for it. Always give me warnings and no real ticket for it so thats where i keep it. Weird thing happened to me the other day though, I was driving and random guy in a mercedes honked me down in the middle of the street. We ended up stopping traffic so he could tell me that he was on the dallas morning news website and read an article about how the front license plate law had been removed. So according to him as of this month of may your not required to have a plate up front anymore. I have been searching for this article for a while now and cant find it. Can someone help me search for it? Mayb the guy was rite and texas no longer requires a front plate!

Looks like it's been under review by the Transportation and Homeland Security Committee in the State Senate for over a year.....

I couldn't find anything about the bill being passed yet, or about to pass, though.

I mounted mine with suction cups from Hobby Lobby. Works great, has never fallen and I haven't gotten any ill looks about it.

Houston is getting very bad about writing "defective equipment" tickets lately. Trying to generate revenue would be my guess. My windshield has been cracked since 2003, and I got a ticket for that earlier this month, 6 1/2 years later. Not to mention the no front plate ticket I got at the same time. I've been pulled over 3 times this year and written up for no front plate each time.

The latest was by DPS, and it was for no front plate only. This occured in May, so if the law has changed, someone needs to tell the troopers.

I think my favorite solution to this that I've seen on here was a guy that bought one of those power-operated hide-a-plates and mounted it under his front bumper. I wish I could remember who did it because it was genius. It tucked under the bumper, flush, and with the flick of a switch, it raised up with just enough clearance to not scrape the ground and looked like an ordinary front mount (to the side of the front). Brilliant!

That's what I would do if I lived in a front plate state.
