heres the advantage of using a local tuner: 75% or more of the evos that come to me as new customers, have issues with the car that just tuning it wont fix (and if you don't check for it, it can be robbing power no matter how small it is). flying someone out there to tune you car means he wont have any tools, and any way to fix anything if and when your car has an issue.

when people bring me a car, i look it over, make sure it is going to tune right, fix anything and everything that needs to be fixed, then tune it. i have turned people away who wanted a tune because the car needed something that tuning without will yield subpar results, either we fix it, or they fix it, then they are much happier in the end. i don't demand a deposit for the tune, and your not out the plane ticket cost to fly me over to your place when it cant be tuned because you have a lifted head, or your running more boost then your BOV can hold. and when i start tuning a car, if i find it has something i cant fix on the spot, i don't usually charge to tune it again after its fixed

for me, the computer work of tuning a car isn't the expensive part. its the time and knowledge needed to know when something is wrong, and fix it. you wont get that with a fly in tuner.
actually we're gathering at a shop and will have full access to every tool imaginable and their staff for the bigger jobs if necessary. You seem awfully concerned about me coming out there, I'm flattered.

results from last year speak for themselves, even one of your customers is in there

to switch maps on an evo 8/9 you dont need any of that stuff. i'll configure it with the tephra mod and a map switching harness. then it just requires the flip of a switch and you'll toggle between pump and e85 tunes. its that easy.

for the evo X, its just the 2008 year and not MR.

MR and 2010 are not available yet.

Ok I should of been more specific in my question, its directed more towards this comment you made. I have an Evo X GSR, so the questions are for it.

I currently have a COBB accesport using their free tunes off their website. I like the comfort of being able to switch the tunes when I need it. ie Valet, anti-theft, and using the live data log. Is it very simple to use for me, I dont know how simple it is to use ECUflash.

If it is this simple to use as you say, and you can provide multiple tunes like the AP can. I would much rather get a custom tune from you and ditch the AP. You would have to show me how to use everything so I can switch maps on my own.

+1

I'll skip the AP if I can get a custom tune for my Ralliart and switch maps with my laptop and a cable.

showing you how to switch maps with ecuflash isnt a problem at all. for the X we can setup the map switching, for the ralliart we will still have to use the laptop, but still easy to do.

speaking of mil spec in ur sig i need to do a boost leak test and make sure my tb seals aren't leaking even though I bet they are. I get slight rev hand issues when I decel after high rpm.

^ the mil spec seals for the tb are very easy to change out...and I forgot the percentage but I think it's like 80% or so stock evos come from the factory leaking...

ya i saw the how-to and it looks very easy. The mil-spec thread shows that 80% of evo 8's are leaking and 90% of evo 9's are lol. I'm gonna order mine today or tomorrow and do them when they come in and do a boost leak test after.

Kevin:

So how much would this cost for a custom tune with multiple maps? I ask cause with the AP I can flash the fuel conservation map when I take long road trips. When I want power I can flash that map. I just like the comfort of being able to change the maps with no problems.

Kevin's prices are really good. Check out the site for pricing:

I know Kevins prices, I have been going to him for a while now, my question is how much will the multiple tune price be. That price is for a custom tune not multiple.

His site says:

Product Description

the stock ECU is by far the most used ecu for the evo, and it is capable up to very high power levels. my own car makes 500whp utilizing a completely stock ecu setup.

The work done in a tune includes:

* adjusting fuel tables using my zeitronix wideband system that i will hook into your car (no wideband is needed on your part)

* adjusting the timing tables

* setting the rev limiter and the two step limiter

* removing the speed limiter

* adjusting the overboost protection

* adjusting the MIVEC tables (evo 9 only)

* setting the boost, for this i use the manifold pressure sensor with my wideband system in case you don't have a boost gauge.

* i can also add other features found on evolutionm.net created by Tephra and other very generous software gurus. this includes no lift to shift, valet mode, knock CEL flasher, alternate map switching, and direct boost control

Since the description includes the Tephra, valet, etc. I would assume he adds them as part of the tune if you want 'em.

the prices are different now that we are using the dyno. i haven't undated the webpage in a while

anyway, its 175/hr to dyno tune. typically a car coming in for a retune can be done in around an hour - hour and a half. for first time tunes, we are able to get them done usually around 1 1/2 hours-2hrs. so in other words, if you bring me a car with no mechanical issues, the prices are roughly the same, if not a little cheaper then before with the fixed rate. i can still do street tunes, the prices is 125/hr, but it takes significantly longer because we have to drive a ways away (cops are EVERYWHERE by the shop). the only time that it takes longer is when i do something like speed density tuning which requires a full tune from scratch, it has an aftermarket ecu, or you bring me a car with problems (pipes popping off, leaks, bad parts etc...). if you know there is a problem, we can resolve it before it goes on the dyno and it will be far cheaper

when we do multiple tunes, it just takes longer obviously. for E85, i have a drum at the shop so we can switch there, but i need to get it refilled. this will save us some time as well so we dont have to drive to the nearest station (about 15 miles away). the installation and setup of the map switching does cost 50 dollars (which on the X will cover tephras work for doing this for us, your welcome to donate it directly to him and we will waive the fee. on the 8/9 when a switch is installed, the 50 covers that.)
