is the car still drivable charles? we can pick the car up this weekend on a flatbed trailer and get it done first thing next week if you want. if you can drive it and need it done immediately, bring it on up and we can have you in and out in a day.

It's totally drivable, just the clutch is getting weak and I am pretty much nursing it at this point. Go figure -- the HP it's putting to the pavement since your E85 mods is a little too much for the poor stock part. I could wait until it goes out but I kinda don't want to. I plan to order an ACT disc and pressure plate kit to replace it.

I have not ordered the clutch yet; lemme take care of that first. I'll get with you over PM to set up a time, thanks!

If Evo Dynamics is inconvenient (which is your best option), there is no point in going to JMS. May as well have a local shop do it.

I think Cobb just opened their HQ in Austin. I've had a clutch replacement done at MZM, they are closest to you, work is good but pricey.

KevinD, I'm sure if you post in the Fort Hood mega thread, you'll have some interest in tuning.

MZM is by far the best around. Yes the prices are really high, but Mohammed’s experience, honesty, and quality of work is unsurpassed in the Texas region. I only trust MZM with my investment.

Haha. Have you been to the other places? I haven't been to any of them but you comment sounds very biased. As for me I have heard no bads things of Kevin, but i haven't heard of the other places.

Sorry that sounds biased, but it’s my opinion.

I have only personally dealt with Protech and MZM. Protech was incompetent. I’ve heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about JMS. Cobb doesn’t count because they have only been open here for 3 months, but let’s face it, its Cobb.

As far as EvolutionDynamics is concerned, I have not personally done business with them. I can tell you that when I purchased my VIII from Pete Wei of AutoWei in Carrolton TX, there was worked performed at EvolutionDynamics in addition to a full vehicle inspection. Unfortunately they missed the leaking head gasket and the cooling system full of tap water/rust. 2 weeks after buying the car the head gasket completely failed.

I’m not blaming my motor failure on Kevin or EvolutionDynamics, but it’s just something that leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.

Here is a fact for you: Mohammad has more experience tuning, fabricating, and building than any lead at any shop in Texas. But dont take my word for it, see for yourself...

I had my Exedy twin done at Automotive Specialist (Round Rock, Georgetown http://www.automotive-specialist.com/ ). At 40yrs old and growing up wrenching on cars and bikes myself, I am pretty much burnt out on repairing them these days. For me, Automotive Specialist is the first place I take my cars and trucks. However, they are a repair shop and performance is not their core focus. I have known the owner for many years and trust them entirely with my car and that's saying a lot coming from someone as skeptical of shops as me.

I have also known and had experience with Mzm and their owners for about 10 yrs now. Like John's shop they are thoroughly knowledgeable in their craft. Considering the knowledge and expertise, the shop rates are set accordingly. These are guys that tune and build cars all day long with licensed software and their own dyno. Mzm will not hand you an inflated dyno sheet that you can wave around like a trophy. Rather, they will give you a thoroughly tuned car that maximizes your car's potential at your threshold for reliabilty. So if you're not comfortable sending your $30K+ investment to a side-job tuner/mechanic then you can feel comfortable knowing there are shops in central Texas with pros and you have the option to have them work on your car.

when dealers bring me cars to fix, its to fix the little problems so they can sell the car. they want it done as cheap as humanly possible. i've never done a "full inspection" for any dealer, nor have i been asked too (they have their own people do that). usually the cars they bring me are very beat up, picked up at auctions for nothing which they are trying to flip. usually they just want the inspection codes to pass, the cars to idle properly and the boost to be 20psi or so.

i'm sorry you had a head gasket failure, but i would say its a little unfair to have a used car dealer sell you a car sopposedly inspected by me, without asking me if i inspected it, and associate the headgasket failure to us. how much boost were you running? what mods are on the car? and what is/did MZM charge to fix it?

thats something i stock all the parts to fix, and can do it in a day its that common. i even have refreshed cylinder heads on the shelf for 8's and 9's for the very reason it is common with modified evos.
