i'm sorry you had a head gasket failure, but i would say its a little unfair to have a used car dealer sell you a car sopposedly inspected by me, without asking me if i inspected it, and associate the headgasket failure to us. how much boost were you running? what mods are on the car? and what is/did MZM charge to fix it?

thats something i stock all the parts to fix, and can do it in a day its that common. i even have refreshed cylinder heads on the shelf for 8's and 9's for the very reason it is common with modified evos.
Again, I am not blaming you or your shop. The blame lies fully on Pete Wei and his two bit operation of flipping desirable cars for a profit. At the time of purchase Pete informed me that a full vehicle inspection had been performed by Evolution Dynamics in addition to a front brake job and a new Cat. As you know, Pete is a frequent customer of yours and makes his money buying beat up performance cars at auction and trying to sell them for much more than their retail worth.

My head gasket failure most likely occurred before I bought the vehicle. It was running stock VIII boost controlled by the ECU on a stock tune which led me to believe the car hadn’t had the **** dogged out of it with only 72k on it. After finding the cooling system filled with tap water, I decided to flush the system completely. As soon as I flushed the system I began consuming coolant, and the rest is history.

What about the answer to the other questions? If someone said that xyz inspected it then it failed I'd have gone back to the xyz first.

I've had headgaskets done in 6 hours before...at least I think that's how long it took, and that's with me there asking hundreds of questions

I know two guys who have owned performance shops in Austin that were at one point literally right across the street from MZM and I used to hang out and hear alot of negative stuff about them re: prices, unfinished work, shotty craftsmanship, etc. Not that I don't hear that about every shop, but it was specifically import guys...Supras, DSM's, Subies, etc. which is why I started doing car work...the only person I've trusted to touch my car is Kevin.

I called up MZM one day and asked how much it would be to do 2-3 dyno pulls and he said I would have to pay the full tuning price to even do a pull because they are so far backed up with people who want tunes that it would take 2 months to get to pulls so if I paid the full amount they could "squeeze" me in. How nice of them, not.

I did not have MZM fix it. I know my way around a car and have owned 2 DSM's before purchasing my first Evo. All I had MZM do was a leak down test and a coolant system pressure test to confirm my suspicions. In addition to the head, all 4 cylinders were warped from top to bottom and 2 of the 4 had developed flash rust.

I decided to drop in a 0 mile Mivec motor, harness, and ECU myself, and parted out the junk.

I would not take my car to MZM for anything other than a Tune. Why? Because I don't need to. But for guys around here that know nothing about turbo cars, have big check books, and wanna go fast.....well thats why they have a 2 month waiting list.

You can make the same argument about Boost Logic and their prices.

If you can please tell me your experience with Protech that made you come to this conclusion. We are one of Austin's original Performance shop since 1996 and have done many Evos and Subbys. I am not going to point out names of people who use to work for us and learned from us.

Please do not confuse us with Protech Body Shop or the Protech that is NOT located at 808 McPhaul St, many people have problems with them and they quickly relate this to us and it gives us a bad name / reputation.

If you need tuning, performance, or maintenance done for your Evo or any other Import, I guarantee you will be satisfied with our service and pricing.

Thanks.

I have only personally dealt with Protech and MZM. Protech was incompetent. I’ve heard a lot of good and a lot of bad about JMS. Cobb doesn’t count because they have only been open here for 3 months, but let’s face it, its Cobb.

As far as EvolutionDynamics is concerned, I have not personally done business with them. I can tell you that when I purchased my VIII from Pete Wei of AutoWei in Carrolton TX, there was worked performed at EvolutionDynamics in addition to a full vehicle inspection. Unfortunately they missed the leaking head gasket and the cooling system full of tap water/rust. 2 weeks after buying the car the head gasket completely failed.

I’m not blaming my motor failure on Kevin or EvolutionDynamics, but it’s just something that leaves a bad taste in ones mouth.

Here is a fact for you: Mohammad has more experience tuning, fabricating, and building than any lead at any shop in Texas. But dont take my word for it, see for yourself...

I'm sure if I took my ride up there, and payed for it to have work done, I would get what I payed for. But the fact is that it happened before I owned my car, and I got screwed by trusting a scumbag used car dealer who said he had it and all his evo's mechanically inspected at Evolution Dynamics. I have documentation of that. Never blamed Kevin or Evo Dynamics.
