Shops that work on the Evo

I just ordered an EGT gauge, which I believe, you have to drill somewhere in the engine to put the sensor on. I don't want any treeshade mechanics to do this, so can you guys recommend me a really good shop that will do the job for me?

check out DSA Motorsports, they specialize in DSM's 4G63 motors here in houston. They charge very fair prices for their labor and they said they are starting to work on alot of Evo's too. I haven't had any work done by them yet, but i plan to in the future.

Do it yourself....drill and tap your manifold.....and screw in the egt sensor. Mount the gauge and find a ground and 12v source. It's not hard.

Just make sure that you get all of the shavings out if you do it yourself. It may be the turbine side, but you do not want any metal particles going through it, at least I wouldn't.

You need to drill and tap it while the engine is running, so that shavings are shot back out the hole. Also have a strong shop vac sucking up stuff as you go too.

Why would I be joking. It's the only way you can do it unless you want to remove the entire manifold. Its not like you are running at redline with a glowing red manifold. With a cold car, turn it on, and do the drilling before it gets up to full operating temp. The exhaust keeps the shavings from going inside the manifold.
If someone wants to ruin their turbo they can try it a different way though.

Here is a complete how to for installing the EGT. See step #7.

I know this is an accepted way to do an EGT, but it gives me the creeps thinking about what that one bit of metal could do in a worse case situation. I know I could R&I the manifold in one long day, so I weighing the options.

BTW, If I were running a shop I would never do the run the engine method.

So in theory it blows all the shavings out.. kind of unprovable, though. Anyways, just because its on the internet in a vfaq doesn't make it right or sensible. Let see.. hrmm.. un burnt fuel in exhaust... lets drill a hole into it with a metal bit on more metal. no SPARKS might happen. LOL. I have had several egt guages in my cars in the past and if any shop had ever tried to do this, I would never have brought my car near them again.

Incidentily that FAQ refers to an EGT as if its a good way to measure a/f ratios as well.. so.. I definitely wouldn't trust its install method.. lol..

I'm not brave enough to install this myself. I've read the how to's. There are many different ways, and I can't do any of them, or will I have the tools to.

Call up Autologic and talk to Jason or Brad. They will get you taken care of properly, professionally, and for a good price. I've done a lot of business with them in the past and will in the future I'm sure.
