I must've been lucky... when I got mine from Barrett they had a red evo that the manager drove to break it in specifically for the purposes of allowing test drives. I test drove it and walked away with a black one. They did however offer the red one to me for 1500 below msrp with 1200 miles on it. Maybe someone took it and that's why they quit allowing testdrives.

All boils down to personal preference. I also have a friend with an 05 STi, that I got to drive around a bit. I like the Evo's handling better, it feels a lot stiffer and doesn't roll near as much. I also like the seats in the Evo better, I think they're more supportive. If you are looking for a car to do long trips in, the STi is nice, because the ride is a little softer, the seats are a little softer and it has cruise control.

 

My deciding factor was that you can easily confuse an sti for a wrx and there are alot of wrx's on the road but it's kinda hard to mistake an EVO for a lancer RA, theres nothing on the road like it.

I still want a wrx, but it will always come second to my evo.

 

I had a WRX, I loved it, lashed a load of cash into it, it got trashed by 2 Mitsubishi Montero's. I test drove everything out there when I was shopping for a replacement, and considered the STI, but went with the EVO as it just felt more "right".
