Cool... very easy to get to from Raleigh (esp. now that all 3 lanes are open on I-40)

1) Get on I-40 West
2) Take exit #270 (15-501) and make a Left onto 15-501. Continue on 15-501 (2 miles) until you reach the Franklin Street split (merge right onto E. Franklin St.)
3) Go all the way "up" E. Franklin St. and you'll pass the sorority houses, the planetarium and you'll reach the middle of Chapel Hill (Franklin St. and Columbia). We'll keep going on W. Franklin St. - you're almost there.
4) Look to your (left) for the "Panera." Across the street on your right will be a) a bike shop b) the abandoned "Wicked Burrito" c) "Vespa" Italian Restaurant. Turn Right into the huge parking lot. W. B. Yeates is in the back (you'll see the line of Evo's pointing the way)

Who elese is in?

Update the list...

I'm curious to see if Alex does it and if so, what he would charge. Last I checked he's $60 bucks/hr.

Creech used to do GREAT work when I had an Isuzu Amigo. Don't know how well they do with any other makes/models though.

Slide hammer is it. I have one. I made my own from a dent puller from Autozone and a stud from a hardware parts store. This special tool cost me $12 to make. I would suggest taking it to the dealer ship on Capital. Ask for Carlos or Reshawn. Carlos has an Evo and has put several clutches in Evo's including his own. The price should be about $550 to $600 with labor. It will be done right though. I wouldn't let anyone put the clutch in it who hasn't put a clutch in an Evo before, you don't want to be there experiment. It is not just a standard affair.

My friend and I would probably do it for you here in Hickory for about $450. I have done my clutch install on my Evo and he has done 3 clutch installs.

Brian-

If the Dynoflash thing falls through, can I swing up to your place for assistance in a ss clutch line install -leaving the restrictor pill (undecided). I need a bleeder, fluid (and my HOA disallows working on the car inthe front yard/driveway)

PM me with your address, again if the Dynoflash is a flop.

I sure hope Leith Mitsu's service department has improved a hell of a lot. When I bought my Evo from them I brought it in to get the guage kit installed and an oil change. Those #!@$ers couldn't even figure out the right oil to put in the car!!! Granted, that was a year ago, so hopefully things are much better.

4-BNGR: You can come up to my house to do the clutch line install. I don't think you will want to drive 2 1/2 hours for the amount of work that is required. Remember, I moved to Hickory now. It is very easy to do. The bleeding is very easy, you just need to have someone in the car to help you. After you install the new line, and refill the fluid lost. You pump the clutch down, it will stick to the floor. You pull it up with your hand and do it again three more times. After the third time, with the pedal to the floor, you open up the bleed screw on the slave cylinder (where the new line hooked to). You repeat these steps until the clutch pedal begins to spring back and until you get no more air from the bleed line. BTW, you need to get a clear piece of tubing and a 20oz coke bottle to run the clear line into. This will catch the bleeding fluid and air when you open the bleed screw. It is very simple.

Also, I would leave the restrictor pill in place. Just my opinion.

Czubaka: They are alot better now, well at least two of them are. There was a steep learning curve for the Evo mechanics when the car first came over here. There are some decent Evo experienced mechanics out there now. Carlos at Leith on Capital is a good one and so is reshawn, Reshawn is a DSM guy and Carlos has an Evo of his own.

Brian-

I know it's a snap, but the littlest job is shunned by the HOA, plus it's a legit excuse to get out of the house -mainly to meet up with a "true" enthusiaist and have a or

Oh, Hickory is a snap - I've made it to Maryland in 4.5 hours in the bimmer

Are you getting the same impression as I am that the Dynoflash thing is gonna fall through - again...

Way OT here, but I've come across some "dino" motor oil that obliterates any full syn. $7.80 per quart (viscocity of > 500 degrees F). It's a petrolium based oil. Here's a link http://www.le-inc.com/products/Eo/EO_HeavyDuty.html
It's been long used by many racing teams. Compared to M1 full syn, well, there is no comparison. I figure this is a cheap way to regain some power we loose to parasitic loss...

we can do clutches on evos. having thrown down on a bunch of audi/vw awd systems, eclipse, and scoobies, i'm sure the evo isn't that much different. it can't be any worse than an audi s4.

but we have lots of experience with awd cars.

looking around 8-10hr's of labor. $70/hr is the new labor rate. we've moved into our new shop, which is subsequently right next door to our old shop. MUCH bigger now.

but we've done quite a few higher profile cars and can provide references to anyone needing some info on our work.
