I got that stupid P0300 code before cams, after cams, after a factory (fix) reflash... Started right around 20K miles.. According to a couple Mits techs (that I trust) they say it's a vibration from the tranny that sets a sensor off.. Which reads as random misfire, but isn't really misfiring.. The only time I get the P0300 is right around 90mph, after driving a little ways on the highway.. Never get it driving around the city, or idling.. Always at damn 90mph.. Which is my cruising speed so it's really annoying.. Sometimes i'll take it outa gear and put it back into 5th and it stops.. Weird I know..

There was a redesign of 5th gear AND the whole input shaft. The 5th gear would get loose on the old shaft and rattle around, setting off the code. You can no longer buy the old input shaft. When replacing the input shaft with the new part number, a new 5th gear has to also be used.
