Evos @ Rolex 24 hour race Daytona Fl

Hey Southeast! And anybody else that loves road trips and road racing. Some of us from Alabama/Georgia Evo community are going down to the Rolex 24 hour race in Daytona Florida. The race weekend is at the end of Jan, 26th-29th, Thursday to Sunday. It would be great to meet some fellow evo owners and hang out. I'll be there the whole time, some folks for just the race. We are thinking of a dinner meet Friday night, the 27th. It will be later in the evening.

I went last year and had a blast, and I'm dragging everyone I can down there. If you're not familiar with road racing, Grand Am is a great series, with several classes of very competeitive cars. The Daytona road course is huge, using the inner road course and the high banks, creating a lap length of over 3 miles.

Watching the teams/drivers work through a 24 hour race is amazing, and you can get very close to the action. The race weekend is well before nascar starts up down there, so it's not crowded, and you can have great access to everything. Hotels are as cheap as $50 a night, and track tickets are cheap, allowing you to get a big bang for your buck.

Here is a post from another evo website that we don't talk about over here, if you want additional info. PM me for any questions!

Rolex Daytona 24 hr racing!

It's a 2 day event, and it's close to AL, GA, FL and it's something that everyone could enjoy and get together to have fun!

Here are some info:

January 28th + 29th Saturday and Sunday.

It's at Daytona International Speedway, Florida.

The tickets range from $50 to $300 + (which Silverlining and I both recommend that you get the Championship Club package, which includes a lot more than the regular ticket.

Also, if you could only afford the gas money for the drive, you could always run their 5k marathon before the race start.

For more information :

The Site:

http://www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/

Or call 1-800- PITSHOP

The hotel is $60, but you could always share with other people.

I am planning on not sleeping for a day or so.

This is a great event for someone who's never been to a large race before to get together and enjoy the race, like me.

NOW, ALL YOU FLORIDA PEOPLE WHO DIPPED OUT ON THE DRAGON MEETING, this is your chance to redeem yourself!

We already have about 5 Evo people going as well as a lot of folks that I know going.

Myself and few other people will get together Friday night of 27th and drive down there.

THIS IS OUR BIG SPRING MEETING!

DO NOT miss this giant EVO GA///SE meeting!

Sounds fun...too bad I'm in California. Hopefully there will be motivation for something similar when Rolex comes to Long Beach. Oh, and have fun guys!

is it true that you maybe able to run the parade lap before the race starts, if we have enough Evo's going?

Last year, a private car club did have a parade lap, but that was on Thursday or Friday, I can't remember which. No parade laps on Saturday, I believe. One of the guys is looking in to it, so I say possibly, but waivers/insurance tends to be difficult even for larger groups like PCA and SCCA, so a few of us evo folks might be politely told no. Now getting in on someones larger group parade lap might be what we should look in to.

The more people we can get to give us a commitment to coming, the better.

Unfortunately, not much chance of that. Parade laps are a *huge* deal at Daytona. Very few organizations get to do it. The Porsche and Corvette clubs are two of the only groups that have been allowed to my limited knowledge.

I did it twice out there with the C5 Registry because of Chevrolet's big influence during their grand re-entry into road racing with the C5R...but getting permission it was like moving mountains. It seems that clubs who are backed by the Le Mans manufacturers get certain benefits.

Of course things could have changed recently...

We are going for the racing and fun times every road trip guarantees. The more the merrier. Even a parking corral is hard to get, but we'll try for one if it warrants.

I always wonder why I never see many evos when I go to road racing events around the country. I go to races for Grand Am and ALMS, and scoobies seem to out number evos every time. Lime Rock, Barbers, RoadAtlanta, WatkinsGlen, Mid-Ohio, Daytona, never many evos.

I know everyone likes 1/4 mile stuff, and most here dislike nascar, but where are the road racing fans? Show yourselves! It's the best racing you can see.

Thanks for the info! Hopefully those are still available. I ordered the champions club package from the speedway, and it's a bit higher than that price.

Maybe they would let us have a small area to park our evos in their corral?

Working at the local newspaper I get full access passes to most of the races at daytona. The rolex race is the one race I've been to the past 3 or 4 years. It's great being able to go right down into the pits and basically go where ever I want
