New road course in GA? Your thoughts please.
This is something that has been brought up recently, and could be considered to be in the pre-pre-pre planning stages. We are currently just looking for feedback to get an idea of demand for such a project.
The proposed location is near Warm Springs, GA ... about 1.5 hrs. south of Atlanta, or about 45 min. north of Columbus.
The track would be around 1.5 mi. - 2 mi. long with natural topography. The land has some nice sloping terrain that has potential for a great track layout.
Facilities have not been heavily discussed, but will most likely be minimal ... along the lines of basic parking/unloading, fuel, air, water, and restrooms. The proposed location is very close to the towns of Manchester and Warm Springs, both of which have hotels/motels and resturants. There are also camping grounds within 8 or so miles.
The pricing, requirements, and restrictions will most likely be comparable to Talladega Grand Prix, but no specifics have been discussed.
Again, we're just looking for some feedback to see if this project is worthwhile. Thanks.

I would guess depending on the rules of the track and how much the track time for a group maybe.
Talladega Grand Prix is a great track. It's easy, good straights and surface isn't so tough on the tires and price is very reasonable.
I think if you build it, they will come. Making money off of it, that I can't tell you.
I say one thing about it though. longer the course with lots of straights and turns with changing altitude are very desireable for me.

I think the key difference of this track would be the legnth and topography. We could get a few more corners in each lap and we will have the ability to create some nice cornering and braking challenges.
We haven't gotten too far into specifics of charges/penalties/fees for anything like damage to the property, but it will be something to consider later in the process.

sounds interesting, there are never enough courses to go run on. Key thing, do you plan to make a an hpde style track, or hold bike races, or anything, whats the real plan, no competitive events? What kinda safety stuff is required for the lower classes of cars and racing events.
Sounds good to me, It's a bit of a distance, but sure, the more tracks to visit and try, the better.

If this project does happen, I'm sure there will be events held. We haven't gone very in depth with research about the requirements for holding any "association" sponsored events though. We're putting in some pre planning time before spending countless hours nailing down specifics. We have talked about holding privately hosted events, but nothing concrete.
We would have the track available for bikes as well as autos.
Currently, the basic equipment required for the lowest level drivers would be a helmet, safety belt, and fire extinguisher ... similar to Talladega requirements. As more cars hit the track at once, cages, battery disconnects and such may be required. Again, very few specifics have been discussed.

sorry for any confusion.
We don't know the specs yet. We have discussed runoff areas, barriers and such, but the discussions had no basis around actual requirements for racing events/leagues ... it was mostly about concrete barriers vs tire barriers and runoff areas considering space available. Most of that was based on track layout in our proposed space and if it was plausible for the track legnth we wanted.
I'm going to move this discussion to some other forums soon and if we get a good response, we'll start getting some of this info together.
