Moving to Tampa, FL

I am in the military and will be moving to the Tampa area in March. I will be stationed at MacDill AFB. Anyone looking for a roommate or have any recommendations on where to live that is within 20-30 min of the base?

I live about a quarter mile from the base. While I am not in the market for a roomate, I would still say live in this area known as south tampa. South Tampa is really anything south of Kennedy(rt 60) and west of downtown. Hyde Park, Soho, and Palma Ceia are some of the nicer parts of south tampa, and this is where all teh fun places to go out and eat are. As you go south towards the base and then away from Bayshore, the housing gets cheaper. There are nice decently priced appts like Camden on westshore that are right on teh water and right near the base. You can also rent house pretty reasonably. Anywhere in South Tampa is close to the base. Davis Island, and Harbor Island are a little more expensive, but very nice and directly adjacent to downtown.

Let me know what you find, and I can tell you if its good or not. You can rent a 2/1 w/ garage around here for 1k-1300/mo. Little more in the nicer areas

Riverview is way the hell out there. Its next to Brandon. Both suburbs. Most of my friends live there, but I am not a fan. There is tons of new contruction and new appartments out there. It will take you 30 minutes at least commute during commuter times. While it is realitvely close to water, its quite far form the beach

Riverview is not that bad. I have friends in the military that commute from riverview to McDill. When I was in the Navy I didn't like living near the base. I wanted to be far away from it, I'm not sure if you are the same way.

Anyone heard of this place?

Courtney Palms
2404 Courtney Meadows Court
Unit # 301
Tampa, FL 33619

I want to be away from the base and live around as few military as possible. I do not want to take longer than 30 min to get to work and that is with average traffic. I like my sleep.

I have seen that place from a distance. Its right next to the cross town which makes it a little closer, but still out in brandon. That would get you under 30 minutes. I would say its better than the last palce.

Unless you live right next to the base, living in south tampa does not mean living next to other military. Just comes down to if you like living in the suburbs or more in the city

I live in Riverview and it takes me 30 mins to get to downtown Tampa in rush hour traffic taking US41. If I take the cross town (toll road) it only takes 20 mins.

You could live in Brandon or Riverview and take the cross town to macdill and it would probably take 30 - 40 mins depending on what time of the day you have to be there for.

Anywhere in Tampa especially south Tampa is much closer but more expensive.

What is your guys input on Camden Bay?

Camden Bay
11302 W Hillsborough Ave
Tampa FL 33635

Rent is a good price and it is a little closer to the base.

Camden is a big appt company around here and decently reputable. Hillsborough and the veterans get pretty jamed up around rush hour times, so its not much shorter time wise. There is also a lot of constuction out there. Check out camden westshore or camden bayside.
