Is there anyone in GA that knows how to work on evo's (not shops just individuals) that will help me install some valve springs, retainers, and new cams? I just cant see paying another $650 to have it done. Even though that's probably what I'll end up doing I guess.

 

what. you should only pay 350-400 dollars. there are many write ups here.. most important thing is bleeding your lifters..

thats what I thought but the lowest price I have been quoted is $500 and that is from a guy doing it on the side. The lowest shop quote has been $650 and the highest has been $850 lol and theres no way in hell that I am paying that. I don't even want to pay the $500 but I do not even know where to begin when doing stuff like this and I dont want to screw something up

 

Springs and retainers is a major job typically done with the head off the car. It can be done on the car with specialty tools and compressed air, which many times will push the pistons and spin the crank jumping the timing and requiring a timing belt re-alignment.

If you don't need them, there is no reason to install them just to say you have them. Take another look at your mods list.
