hey guys, i was wondering if i could get some input. i just installed a recirc turbosmart bov on my evo. i don't know what it is, i could be just paranoid, but i think something is wrong with the intake system. during the install, i realized that the hose that's running from the intake manifold to the boost gauge was bent and may of been leaking, so i fixed the line. so now, my gauge reads as following, during idle in any gear, or neutral, its around -20psi. when i shift or let go of the throttle during car movement, it would dip to -25psi until i get back on the gas. i haven't boosted much since my intake hose kept popping off while i'm doing wot, but i have doubled clamped it since and really havent boosted hard, but during those wot, i would peak at around 20 and it would taper off to 14-15psi. is this all normal for a non modded engine, like only mod would be the bov and a drop in k&n filter. i don't have parts to do a self boost leak test, but have one set up next wednesday at a dealership. should i adjust the spring on the bov? wastegate? thank you for any input and hope your christmas was good!

Check out that bov and your vacuum hoses in and around it.

If you're suggesting that i check the hoses and the bov, does that mean the generic numbers i'm providing indicates some kind of problem? after the rubber intake pipe/elbow popped off with a loud bang, i made sure that all the hoses and piping has been secured. I didn't notice any puncures in any of the hoses nor cracks in the hose lines, the bov is plugged in and clamped down, but then again, we all know what happens when you eyeball things, lol.

i guess i was wondering if their should be a consistency, like idling is at say -20psi, and no matter what condition, tranny in neutral, in gear and not accelerating (zero throttle), and idling, it will be around -20psi and not at -25 psi.

I'm really sorry if these are very stupid questions because i am definately new to a lot of things. Thank you for all the help that you guys have been providing me thus far.

I just got my car running last night. Drove it around just earlier and vacuum pressure is at 20hg and when in gear but not accelerating it is at 25hg. So yes I think your idle is fine.

The reason why I advise to check your bov is because it is tapering down quite a bit. Even though that is normal for stock Evos, with the bov you should be holding more boost. I could be wrong though, I have no experience with turbosmart bovs. Is that bov adjustable?

haha, hg, woopsie, vacuum in psi?? yes sir, the bov is adjustable. if its not holding boost, or the expected amount of boost, make it tighter/more compressed? what happens if you make it too tight? making it sofer/looser someone advised me to adjust the wastegate, which helps to maintain boost. are stock wastegate adjustable? is that correct info also? thank you for taking your time to observe that vacuum/boost info...

the stock wastegate is adjustable, but you will not get much more boost put it. Because it has a 12psi spring. the vacuum looks pretty close!

Over tightening the BOV will cause compressor surge.
