Why Florida blows...
Depends on the work that you're lookin for... I've been to NYC many times and swore to myself that I would live there... There's so much to do down here... And with the exception of about 10 1/2 sweltering months, the weather is really nice here..!!!

What part of Forest Hills? I used to live in Parker Towers some 30 years ago.
If you are going to move down to South Florida stay in the Ft Lauderdale area or a little farther north. The Miami Dade area really sucks people wise. People here are way too rude.
Last time I went on vacation I went to Pensacola to see the Naval Air Museum and I thought I was in a different universe. People were sooooo nice.
As for the weather the human body can adapt to many things. Some people love it, some hate it. Come down for a week vacation and just ask yourself if you can take this heat for 80% of the year. If yes, come on down. If no, look for someplace else.
Me, I'm trying to find someplace like Everwood. Pensacola is my next best bet. It's as far away from Miami as you can get and still be in Florida. That is good cause I work for the State and would like to transfer.
Anyway, good Luck

Scooter, the P'cola is nice. I live about 30 min east near Ft Walton Beach. It's great in this part of the state. I've only been as far south as Orlando, so I can't speak on Miami. FWB is probably the best area I've lived in, and I've lived in a few states.
purecoda, don't hate on FLA unless you've lived here. I always wanted to live in socal growing up...until I move there. You couldn't pay me to live there anymore. But that's just my taste. Too many freaks/ wackos there. Like I said, though, not me. Right now I'd give almost anything to be ANYWHERE in the good ole US of A. The Middle East SUCKS @$$! Sorry to anyone from here.
Peace

i can be hatin on florida, cuz i've lived here since may of 97.

personally, i'd stay in NYC with the job there. i don't know about your expenses, but you won't make nearly the same amount of dough, though the cost of living may be cheaper (provided you don't move to miami or something).

sucks for you bballin.
of course, i'm sure in a way, ignorance is bliss in your case.
again, and for the record, i don't think florida would be half as bad if you lived on the coast, because at least you get some relief from the costal breeze.
not like freaking gainesville "the city of trees" where dumbass city council decides to have as many trees in that town as possible, thus keeping all but the heaviest of winds out and completely STAGNATING the air. combine that with an afternoon shower, every damn day in the summer, and the hot sun baking it off after that... with NO breeze and humidity hitting the upper 80 percentile, and you've got one freaking uncomfortable day!
2 most profitable businesses in florida.
1. pest control (bugs bugs bugs bugs bugs...)
2. air conditioning (you shut your house and keep the ac on from march till october, or mold and mildew will take over your house and your laundry)

Scooter, I'm in the Air Force, and lovin every minute of...except for this location. Can't believe they actaully pay me to fly. Gotta love it.
purecoda, my bad, wasn't paying close enough attention. NYC is ok, just not for me. Cost of living is outrageous, and besides, I can only live where I am now with my current job.

HotRod, I feel your pain. I was transfered here from Portland Oregon about 2 years ago. I thought that I was getting away from the rain, boy was I wrong. The only reason I am here is because of my job. I am working my a$$ off to get a promotion so that I can get transfered out of here. I cant beleive that I live in a state that builds a statue to memorialize a fricken NASCAR driver! I mean come on did he feed the homeless, cure cancer, invent a more efficient food additive, I mean anything besides drive in cirlces? If you have not seen the statue you need to. They gave the guy forearms like the Hulk.

You got to be kidding me. Tell me how much you pay in state income tax compare to other states in the union. We pay zilch . . . it goes into our pocket.
Love bugs? Down in TB, love bugs are about to be extinct. For the past two yrs, they have been dwindling to nothing from their constant battle against semi's.
