Back from vegas. Drove the car home from the airport and it definitely wasn't a fluke, there is something going on near the front that's making a loud popping crunching sound. I've got the car up right now and the two downpipe bolts don't seem loose at all. I can't tighten them any more than Ali did. Here's a shot of the upstream face fo the downpipe flange, is this about the right clearance?

I'm also wondering about that little bit of debris on the right and whether or not that could be a sign of a leak... imma put some soap on it or something and see if it bubbles. Either way i'll see you guys tonight.

 

If ur reffering to that lil greysih debris than that is the excess nickle antisieze breaking off from the threads, which is normal. but what rpm do u hear that noise? or is it consistantly there.

btw, i got pulled over 2 nights ago for speeding and the guy didn't say a word about my exhaust.

 

it sounds the worst going about 65 mph at around 3k rpm but you hear it to a smaller degree at other rpms. Doesn't seem to happen when i'm not on the gas though. It sounds pretty nasty.

that is wierd! does it sound like metal scraping on something or plastic. does it make this sound when ur idling?

 

It sounds great when idling. Honestly it doesn't sound metallic at all to me. Doesn't sound like plastic either... i'm having a hard time describing it, it's kind of like the crunching sound you get when you step into a foot of snow. The car shakes a bit when it does it, i feel it hard through the gas pedal.

 

in fact I just checked the exhaust for rubbing about an hour ago and it really doesn't seem like it's touching anywhere. The shims on the tie bar seem to be doing their job too.

 

from what ur describing I would think u hitting fuel cut like what I was experiencing when i was hitting 5K+ rpm when its cold out, but then ur saying that u get it @ 3k rpm as well right?

yeah it sounds terrible at 3k, this sucks. Just drove to home depot and i'm having to baby the car so it doesn't do it. I haven't gone WOT since last friday
