Yeah it was a little dramatic. First there was no parking so we parked on the street behind g57. Then a marked police told us all we had to move and Jim left.

We moved over to the eye care place and walked over for a burger. As soon as the cop left the street filled up again. Hot rodders rode through and most left because no parking.

The owners came by and were posting signs saying no tresspassing and such, while some yelled "dick!!!" Etc.

A new, unmarked but in uniform cop pulled up and cleared them out again. Then an old, lean, strung-out construction contractor guy was traipsing across the lot when the cop addressed him. The put his wife beater half on, exposing his midriff wierdly, and balled up his fists and "bowed up" to the cop. He taunted with both wrists as in "handcuff me" then bowed up again. The cop pulled a taser on him and I thought the **** was about to get real. The wacko sat down in the parking lot, the cop talked him down and holstered the taser. It looked like he was getting a field sobriety test for a few minutes. There was a huge crowd watching, some taping it

Anyway the cop let him go, and the guy did a weird assshaking dance as he walked off.

Crazy.

Wow, that will pretty much shut down that event if the guy won't let people park in that lot. I don't see what damage people were doing parking in that lot

Yep. Even the muscle-car guys over at horsepowerjunkies are done with it.

Google: Grill 57 cruise-in may be done
and you can read more about it on the hpj thread, they also posted the owner info in case anyone is interested. They don't look like they have any presence in Raleigh for me to boycott them for being dicks.

that really sucks...you would think the added attention/publicity to the shops would be seen as a good thing. Its free advertising. O well it just takes one bad apple to shut down great events. I just hope nothing like this ever happens to cars n coffee.

It was disappointing the issue Grill57 and the shopping center. I spoke with one of the guys putting out the "No Parking signs" and he indicated that is was an issue of Liability and the new owner being paranoid. He said that the new owner of the shopping center was requiring Grill57 to carry liability insurance and that they sent paperwork to the owner of Grill57. The owner for Grill57 said he did not recieve anything until this past Thursday.

It is interesting though, there was a basketball event held there last month in the same parking area. I wonder if the property owners of the shopping center made them carry insurance for that event.

It is a shame, the Cruise-in has been going own for 17 years without any problems. I am too surprised about the shopping center's owner. I would think they would support the cruise-in to bring in more customers to their "Dead-beat" shopping center.

Ever cleaned up a parking lot after 100+ "tuners" leave it?

Usually takes 100's of bags to pick up all the garbage, cig butts, and then all that has to be hauled off. In Charlotte, when we used to meet on Sat nights, a group of 30 of us contacted the owner of this abandoned lot, and told him we would come on Sundays and do a volunteer trash cleanup.

That lasted about 2 weeks before people stopped showing up on Sundays.

To me, it sounds like the lot owner was tired of picking up everyone's garbage. Don't blame him a bit.

SIDE NOTE

Carbon Fiber arrives tomorrow.

Last meet there wasn't any trash that I could spot around the lot. It was an older than average crowd and therefore very clean and respectable. Granted there was a lot of trash from food from grill 57 but then again increased business=more money=more trash but I wouldn't mind picking up once a month if it meant 5-10x the sales figures.

Great news on the CF. Can't wait to see pics!

+1 on the CF.

I see the point about the trash cleanup, but the G57 crowd is more "mature" than the Cars N Coffee crowd, and I can't remember ever seeing the Barnes and Noble lot being trashed the last 3 times I've been to CNC.

It's easy to interpret it as the owners just being jerks according to what's been said by some of the attendees... but either way, it's kind of a drive for me and I've been once. I'd like to go again, but with no parking, I'll just skip it until they work it out.
