You got it man. If you think of anything else, PM me and I'll shoot you my cell #. You can call/text. The timing is too bad. I just sold my MK7 a few weeks ago. I only sold mine because I ended up picking up a DD and wanted something different as a toy.

Just read through this guy's thread. Should be all the inspiration you need:

Also, FYI if you're not familiar with them, BFI (Black Forest Industries) in Cary is the local APR dealer.

Anybody want to suggest a good shop to detail my car? Need it clayed/polished/sealed, etc. Got a tad bit of a sandpaper"ish" feel on my paint, along with some troublesome water spots that I can't get out.

So this thread may be dead to all but people trying to get stuff fold and boost their post count in order to be able to do that, but I thought that I should post here and give a HUGE shout out to Justin at Force Fed performance in Fayetteville, NC. Another shout out to Top Notch Transport NC LLC and Chris, who was punctual and transported my car with no problems.

I had a rather unfortunate incident happen to me while riding down I-40, broke a lower ball joint on the drivers side going about 75 after the car bottomed out on a bridge in a construction zone. Insurance claim was filed and car was fixed on their dime, or so I thought.

I had the car towed to CBS Mitsubishi in Durham (closest shop) and figured that a DEALERSHIP would be able to work on their own specialty vehicles. This was not the case, DO NOT EVER take your Evolution there. The car was repaired and given back to me, it leaked gear oil. They claimed that the parts person didn't know that the Evolution axles were different than the Lancer axles and that was why it leaked. They ordered the "correct" axle and installed it and returned the car to me. It still leaked and, in fact, leaked worse than the first time, and the car was sent back. They said that the seals were wrong and changed those, and the car was returned to me. Still leaking. I called them back to pick up the car, which they did, and then I got the call that the car was a total loss and they would not be fixing it anymore since it (allegedly) needed a new transmission. They stated that the axle being pulled off the trans warped the case and that the only way to stop the case from leaking was to get a new transmission. This whole ordeal occurred over the span of 4 months and CBS having my car. Gerber collision was the shop that did the bodywork, their work was well-done and on time, but they had to deal with me constantly calling and asking what was going on, they were relaying messages from CBS to me. I was on a first name basis with the receptionist by the end of all this, she was even appalled that it took them so long to fix something so simple.

Insurance battle, arguing with the adjuster, complaining, all was for naught since they said that the car needed a trans and there was nothing I could do except buy it back from them and "take my chances" elsewhere.

After some texting and pictures, I sent the car to Force Fed performance in Fayetteville. I grew up in Fayetteville, and remembered the shop from a EvoM meet a long time ago at Carolina Ale House. I had the car transported there and I had a call by the evening. To top it off, this was Easter Weekend, and I had the car there on Thursday, and he was messaging me and sending pictures at 9pm. The stupid dealership didn't install the intermediate shaft into the transmission correctly and that allowed it to leak. Force Fed had it figured out and fixed within an hour. I needed some regular scheduled service coming soon, so I had them go ahead and do all of that as well. Timing belt service, boost leak tracked down and fixed, car corner weighted and coilovers set up correctly, I picked up my car and drove it home. Justin and Force Fed were in constant communication and messaging with pictures and even video and made me feel as comfortable as if I was wrapped up in my mother's arms. I will be going to them in the future, and I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a shop in the area, they are well worth the trip.

Anyone needing anything to do with an Evolution or any high performance car, do not hesitate to get in touch with the good people at Force Fed performance. They are a bunch of highly skilled and honest mechanics that made me extremely happy. The work was performed for a very reasonable price and very quickly.

Thanks again Justin and to all the staff at Force Fed. Anyone in the southeast, don't hesitate to transport your car to them.

Justin always took care of me. He's a good guy. Glad to hear you had a great experience too. That's why I try to refer people down there if people ask about a shop.

I never got a warm embrace like being wrapped in my mother's arms though. I feel like I missed out.

I'm at 99K miles, and my plan was to take the Evo to ForceFed and get a tune to celebrate when I hit 100K. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's going to happen now that I need to search out an automagic replacement for the Evo.

I guess I'll never get to feel that warm embrace either...

Hopefully, when I offload the Evo, I'll be able to get a decent value for it:
  • Original Owner
  • Electric Blue (sought after color)
  • Minor Bolt-on Mods (Perrin Intake, Cat-back, StopTech Slotted Rotors)
  • 99K Original Miles on Entire Car
  • Maintenance Up to date (though it does need transfer case, differential, and radiator flushes)
  • Still have stock airbox and stock exhaust
  • NEVER been tuned/dyno'd

Clean Evo IXs are so rare anymore. I can't stand the though that somebody might buy it and put it through hell. Ugghh, I hate even talking about the prospect of selling it...

Talk about a blast from the past! I remember meeting you at those early meets back in 2007/08, at either Carolina Ale House, or Buffalo Brothers on Capital (or both!).

Glad to see you're still rockin' the Evo after all these years!

You'll get a decent amount for it. 40-50k miles cars are going for high 20's all day long right now. Clean ones are hard to find.

BTW, I think if you test drive an MK7R you'll be pleased with that DSG trans. I was very anti-auto trans but finally buckled due to traffic. I thought that trans was really good in all modes (regular, sport, or "manual")

Also, for those interested, I just picked up my new "toy" this past weekend. I had decided to finally pick up a dedicated DD so I could have a fun car that I didn't have to deal w/ during the week (Raleigh traffic sucks). I set out to find a clean IX, but that was proving to be very difficult w/out flying across the country so I decided to broaden my scope again. Stumbled across this semi-locally and got a good deal on it so I snatched it up:

I've had a number of Mustangs over the years (couple of 03-04 Cobras and a 2013 Boss 302). I felt like the 2013 Boss that I had last year was the best all around Mustang I had ever been in (short of the new GT350's) but I was driving it every day at the time which wasn't working out w/ a 2 yr old. Excited to see where this one takes me!

Sounds like I'm still ahead in the car count, but you're compiling quite the collection of past cars too haha I'll come down soon and throw it on the dyno so I have a good baseline.

Thanks, Justin. I'm toying around with the idea of keeping the Evo as a "toy" and getting a DD for general use.

Whatever I decide to do, ForceFed is in my future!
