Need advice on a ticket.

Well i received a ticket back in febuary in Atlanta for a 94 in a 65. My court date is aug 12. I already had a informal hearing where i pleaded not guilty which was a mistake. The reason i say this is i have no hard proof that the cop was wrong. The discovery isn't gonna help me. And he says he was running radar. So pretty much i've decided to just tough it out and pay the thing. But i don't want to have to go to the trial plus it may be difficult to get off of work. And seeing that i live 3 hours away it's just annoying. Would it be difficult to get ahold of the judge or proesecutor? I would need to find out who that might be first. But i wonder if i could maybe plea bargain with them and say pay half of the maximum fine i could receive.... which happens to be $409. Don't ask me why it's that high, i didn't receive wreckless driving just speeding. If anyone has dealt with this before i need some advice on how to go about it. Thanks in advance.

edit: My driving record is very good.... only 1 bs ticket 3 years ago for a whopping 45 in a 25 which got threw out due to attending driving school.

Call the county attorney in the case or district attorney. Tell them you would like to do a plea aggrement and if that doesnt work tell them you want to change your plea to quilty. They should be able do the paperwork for you and file it. You may still have to show up in court but you might be able to pick your court date instead.

Exceeding 85 in arizona is $460.00 so yours is not too high. Good luck and keep it at least under 85 , drops the fine in half.

Consider calling around and getting a ticket laywer. Here in Houton they only charge $80 or so, and they always get you off. The down side is if you get a ticket lawyer, you will have to go back to court.

I think if it comes down to it, you'd want to plea "no contest", not "guilty"

atleast the lawyer will get in you in and out fast... while if you go alone you will have to wait until all the lawyers are done

Usually if you plea no contest and if the judge is cool, he'll just warn you and let you off but charge court costs only.

From reading your post, you are only going to court for a ticket and your not on trial. Unless the laws in your state are different from California's. I would try to get a hold of the court clerk and tell them that you want to change your plea and just pay your fine. You probably can just do a walk in to the clerk's office and pay your fees. I think this will be a lot easier to do than trying to get a hold of the District Attorney for a simple ticket. Good luck...

you DO NOT want to plead guilty. think of your insurance not to mention points. best to make a plea deal. aka reduced penalty. Try to get the court to give you a non moving violation.

Only people in AL are going to have real facts for you here. And as such, this thread should be located in the Regional Forum.

I'm moving it.

Change your plea to No Contest and ask to pay the fine. Better than pleading guilty in my book. Otherwise I wrote some pretty good advice on getting out of tickets here...

Its funny how it is usually a young male 16-24 who gets pulled over for doing speeds in excess of 85 mph. And people wonder why we are considered high risk drivers. Its hard to do some times but I learned to slow down by buying a slow*ss 2.0l jetta. It helped me control the erge to speed. Its safer for you and others and you wont get pulled over anymore. Here in nothern CT, most people move at 80-85 mph on the major interstates. Drive at a reasonable speed while being observant and you'll be ok.

As far as advice for your dillema, like mifesto said above, go in looking and acting like a professional, and if GA state laws are like they are here in CT, pray that the trooper who issued the citation doesnt show up. Ive witnessed 4 tickets get dismissed because the trooper didnt show up. Good luck.

As for the torn jeans and attitude, i know how to represent myself in a intelligent manner. And i am prolly one of the best drivers out there. My job consists of me driving a f350 with a trailer on the bham interstates all day long. I'm very aware of everyone else and i'm very observant. I was on the way back from a dsm meet and my buddy just punched it. So i said the hell with it and followed suit. But i wasn't driving wreckless or endangering anyone. Just in the fast lane minding my business. I saw the cop ahead of time and viewed him chilling outside of his car on the emergency lane. It didn't appear that he was running radar or anything. So i slow down and as we pass by he looks up at us (i guess exhausts louder than the rest of the pack got his attention). So then of course he jumps in his car and pulls me over. He claimed the 94 in a 65. I was polite and signed the ticket and went about my business. I just don't see how i'm gonna get it overturned without hard evidence (which i don't have). I don't feel like driving all the way to atlanta 3+ hours plus the time change. I figure it would just be easier to try to plea bargain and maybe not have to come period. Just get some paperwork faxed back and forth or whatever. I can't argue with the actual speeding so i may as well own up to it.
