Discount Oil and Filter

Heads up guys.

I've been doing some shopping for the past month+ to get the club some discounts on oil since most of us change it every 5000 km or less.

i know we are sponsored by mobil 1 for getting some "free" oil. the thing is, not EVERY member gets free oil for every oil change. what this is, is to help us out when we dont have the "free" oil, we can at least save some coin for other stuff while maintaining our cars.

Before i get to OIL. im gonna talk about filters. i got a connect who played around with store pricings to get us approx over $3 off oil filters. the oil filter is FRAM Synthetic (canada only)

Fram has 3 different levels of filtration. Extra guard, Tough, Guard, and synthetic. the first 2 is easy to find at walmart for about 11 bucks and under. the synthetic is the one thats a little harder to find.

Synthetic filter goes for roughly 13 bucks + tax. but i got it for us for 9.50 + tax

I am currently using Amsoil 5w30 -- and its been 10,00 km and my oil still pretty clean - also using synthetic oil filter. Next oil change in about 4000 km -equivalent of 2 weeks for me - due daily long drive. FYI: my car is only 1 year old and i already racked up 43000 km on it.

5 - 6 K is nothing major, For all of my Cars that was the interval for a full tune up. Like having the piece of mind that there no **** floating around in the system, and its not exactly a bad thing, just expensive.

Royal Purple can be had for ~7.50/QT.

i used to follow the "severe maintenance" schedule which was an oil and filter change every 6000 km. I drive hard and when my shop friends heard that i change it at 6000 they freaked.

i changed my oil 1 week before test & tune. (syn oil and syn filter) after just 2000 km i felt that i should be safe and change the oil.. (lol that oil lasted 3 weeks) it was BLACK. black doens't mean bad oil.. it just means that the oil is doing it's job - cleaning and lubercating. but if you try to live off old oil, the cleaning additives wear out and the oil breaks down and you are no longer protecting your engine.

regarding oil filters... the cheapos are basically cardboard filters. all they do is prevent larger particles from entering the engine. the higher quality ones have glass and a full synthetic composite material that can trap the smaller particles and let you drive longer on the same oil.

I would not advise people to drive 24 000 km like advertised by amsoil or the new mobil 1. unless you drive pure highway, no stop & go, and no racing

okay so for the pricings. here is the official price for ROYAL PURPLE 5w20/5w30.. mobil 1 is soon to come. **note** it is recommended that you use 5w20 for regular driving and 5w30 for racing.

A case includes 12x 1 quart bottles. a quart is slightly less than a liter. so for convenience, ill just say liter so you guys dont have to do conversions and all prices must add tax

5-9 cases = $7.69/liter
10+ cases = $7.14/liter

a pail contains 20 quarts

3-5 pails = $7.25/liter
6+pails = $6.45/liter

so its obvious that going with pails gives us the best discount before i go on... lets compare this to walmarts price for mobil 1. 9.46/liter compaired to 6.45/quart. $3 savings per bottle and our cars need 4 bottles per oil change. that means each member saves $15 per oil change if you count the oil filter savings.

feel free to add your name to the group buy for oil + filters. this list does not confirm which oil or filter.. it is just an interest list so i know how much savings we are looking at. feel free to contact your friends and arrange something with them so we get bigger volume. and list how many liters you want + filters remember*** prices may still drop. im planning to make the purchase on sept 15. so save up i will be needing money a week before then for the purchase.

Oil and filter list:
1. Smoke -my dad, friend = 12,12,4 quarts + 3,3,1 filter

unfortunately not. im basing this group buy on a few criteria.

1. vendor markup ( more markup means more room to play with discount)
2. synthetic - most of us drive hard and synthetic oil is recommended for better protection
3. popularity. mobil 1 and royal purple are well known in racing. people will be more willing to convert to these oils if there is a greater discount. rather than going from mobil 1 to penzzoil. or motomaster (canadian tire brand) lol

hope this helps

we are going to let smoke pilot this group buy. He is authorized to organize this. So if people are interested please inform him.

Smoke, is there any way they can tie the deal to include either oil. Royal or Mobil

It actually depends. price quoted for royal above is from a vendor that deals ONLY with royal.

if i go to a different vendor that deals with multiple vendors, their margins are way different since they sell different volumes according to different companies. but hang tight since a few more vendors are to call me up this week with updates and negotiations.
