Need a New Winshield :(
Need a New Windshield :(
Looks like I need a new windshield... so any advice would be appreciated.
I had a really tiny stone chip on my windshield. I went to go get it repaired at the Speedy Autoglass at 5235 Steeles Avenue West in North York. I had this done twice on my previous car... and figured it would just be a routine fix again. So I went for a walk while they went to work on my car. I got a call from them... I thought it would be to say my repair was done. To my horror the guy tells me... "Uhhh... err... the repair did not take..." What the fack??? I run back to my car to see what was initially damage less than the size of a dime now was a crack that covered two thirds the height of the windshield.
Fack... so now I need a new windshield.
Any suggestions on where I should go to get my windshield repaired? How much will it cost? Should I go for Mitsubishi glass? I spoke to a different Speedy Autoglass... and they quoted me $500+tax for the repair. But that doesn't include Mitsubishi glass... he said it includes "OEM Approved Equivalent glass".
When giving advice... I rather have the job done RIGHT as opposed to cheaply.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

my dad owns Sunny Auto Glass you can give him a call see what quote he gives you.
His name is Mike and the number is 647 218 0241
Hes been doing this most of this life and I've never seen anyone come back with any problems.
After market glass is cheaper only cuz its not a brand name but its the EXACT same thing, no joke. But if you want original glass probably made by PPG its gonna cost no matter were you go.
Just say you know his son Dave from the car club, I'm sure he will give you a good price.
The company offers a mobile service which means they come to you and fix it where you want while you work or in your driveway. Makes things more convenient for the customers.
Call asap tho if you want him personally to do the fix cuz hes going away on vacation in a few weeks. And if its one thing I trust my dad with, its my car...

Is there anybody here who has gotten work done by him? Just looking for some reviews.
How much is your deductible? There are cases where they can waive your deductible. It might not hurt to ask.
When I got a crack in my windshield, it cost around $900 w/ OEM glass done at Mitsu. But my ded is 300, so I paid it anyway.

The dealer was crazy expensive... wanting like $950 to supply/install the windshield!!!
Speedee Gonzalez AutoGlass was the cheapest by far... they only want $220 for PPG glass! Like $180 for aftermarket glass.
On a side note... doesn't it feel weird that for the same job of replacing windshields... people are charging anywhere between $150 to $1,000?!?!?
There's gotta be some major differences here???

major differences is the actual work itself.
most of the glass is the same thing just brand names unless you need a specific type of glass.
I've been watching my dad replace windshields all his life and many customers that originally called him but went with the stupid cheap guy/place come back to him to do it over cuz of leaks and cracks. Now it costs them twice as much.
but even besides that many installers r not carefull, and rush things which things like paint scratching and some serious hacking to get the window out happens.
My dad just did a BMW 330i yesterday and it was replaced before but when he was cutting out the glass on the driver side, the blade jumped right through from top to the bottom which means there wasnt a proper seal if any done when it was replaced the first time.
Once he took the window out and was able to see the damage no seal has done for god knows how many years, the frame of the car on that side was all rusted out.
My dad now HAS to fix this or else there will be future problems which he did not cause and its just a pain in the a$$.

I just finished getting my windshield installed by xCASHx’s Dad (Mike at Sunny Auto Glass)… and was very impressed with what I saw. He took his time doing the job… and was very careful and particular about what he did. He didn’t even mind me hanging around… or even getting involved at some points in time. After seeing him work… there’s no way in hell somebody can do a proper job of changing a windshield in like 15 minutes.
When I was asking about glass options… I initially said I wanted OEM-Mitsubishi glass because people were saying aftermarket glass was too thick and would stick up above the roof. What Mike ended up telling me was that the non OEM glass stuck up because the installers weren’t trimming the original seal down! So of course if you put new seal material on top of the old… it’s gonna stick up above where the old windshield was. After seeing him cut down the original seal… and the fact that my windshield doesn’t stick up… I can see he was telling the truth.
I would be careful going for the cheapest or quickest option… because seeing the tools that are used in this processes… you could easily fack up parts of your car.
Thanks for the referral xCASHx…
