any solutions for window tint scratches?

Hi All,

I've been very reluctant to roll my 20% all around windows. all my passengers think im paranoid. i reeeeeeeeeeeeally want to roll my windows down this summer.

It's been 3 years since our 9G lancer came out. Just wondering if anybody has updates on the window tint scrach issue.

I've went to fx auto and i tried mole skin -> cut the lower weather strip, and the scratch is still coming.

I'm thinking if i carefully cut the upper lower strip so it's not pressing against the window, maybe that'll be the solution. does anybody have a proven method they like to share?

Thanks in advance

What tint film are you using?

I haven't had any scratches on mine when I had my 08 and I did the moleskin thing too

I have lots of scratches on my tints, I got the tints done when i picked up my car. I went to erin mills the other day and they told me i should go back to the location where i bought my car cause it should have life time warranty. They stated that they should have putted in the mole skin when installing the tints. All the showroom cars at the erin mills location has moleskins even though they weren't tinted. The thornhill location actually closed so i went to the scarborough location. They told me that it was my fault that dirt got trapped in bottom and of course its going to scratch. My question is, Since its lifetime warranty, is it covered my mitsubishi or do i have to go to the location that i purchased my car from? Because the dealership in thornhill turned into a KIA dealership.

I think lifetime warrenty should cover the scratches. If not, you can always just make the film crack and bubble and say that it needs to be fixed
The thornhill location did not close down. It just moved up the street. It's on yonge and arnold now

Yea, I heard how there's a new mitsu dealership in thronhill. The kia dealership is still the same owner of the previous mitsu dealership though. So does that mean that they're responsible to replace my tints? Am I allowed to get darker tints if all the windows needs to be replaced? Did they add the moleskin when they re did your tints?

^if you got ur tints down at thornhill and its on your invoice, then you can bring it back to them for fixing
most likely they will not give you a darker tint because of legal issues. I asked for darker tints on mine and they would only give me 35%

^^ do you know what series of formula one? It might be the moleskin has fallen off?

I don't think trimming the weather strip is going to be a good idea. you might get more road noise/vibration and possibility of humidity/water leaking in?

I would suggest a retint from a place that offers lifetime warranty if you're super paranoid about scratches

fx-auto also offer lifetime waranttee and i got them to redo mine once. but they are very reluctant and most likely wont do it again cuz they say they can't find a solution and it's weather strip and trapped dirt that's causing the scratch.

its very common. hard to prevent.
low quality film its gonna happen eventually.

high qualtiy film, moleskin seal is the best bet and keeping it clean

I and about 5 other people had tints done at Tint Masters and dont have a single scratch. Generally your at the mercy of how good your installer is. And if they put in the proper stuff to ensure the tint dones not scratch. Some good shops stand by their life time warranty, and installer workmanship is included in that.

Interms of getting rid of the scratches, your stuck with it. it will generally only be visiable to you on the inside, so if you dont car so much, dont worry.
