Car and Driver Lightning Lap Challenge - EVO X beats STi again!

Car and Driver did a Lightning Lap Challenge where they send various cars available for sale around a track to see which cars go the fastest. There's no other criteria besides lap times. The categories are kinda weird... because the price ranges in each category are pretty wide. For example the EVO X is in the same category as the Lexus IS-F and Ford Mustang GT500 which cost twice as much.

Anyways... they tested the EVO X SE... and it beat the 2011 STi sedan by 3.5 seconds per lap! C&D said that the WRX was faster than the STi down the straight... and that the WRX cornered harder at the start of each lap than the STi. Oh and incase you are wondering... the EVO X SE went 6 seconds a lap faster than the WRX.

Seems like a pointless test.

That track didn't look very tight... so long straights + big power = win.

The Shelby has 550 hp and 510 tq. It costs twice as much and has roughly double the power.... of course it won.

im sure he was posting this for the main battle "sti vs evo"
obviously a car with double the power will win, specially on a track designed for speed
sigh

Yup... that was my point for posting the article... that even tho Subaru improved the STi... the EVO X is still lapping faster! I still haven't had a chance to try the 2011 STi...I can't really motivate myself to go either. That's how disappointed I was by driving the 2008 STi. lol

But I also agree that this test is weird. The categories are too wide... it's pretty much they just spent a day lapping cars and posted their fastest times at the end of the day.

A lot of people seem to be saying great things about the performance of the latest Mustang. Did you see the article where they did a comparison between a Mustang GT and the BMW M3... and the Mustang pretty much matched the M3's performance even tho it costs way less?

Props to Ford for making a Mustang that can handle well!
