mitsubishi plans for 2013

News is coming out that Mitsubishi is planning on killing off the PS platform which underpins the Eclipse, Endeavor and Galant. I think this is good news because I don't like any of the cars that use that platform. All the Japanese based Mitsubishi's are nice... while the American made models are currently "undesirable". Why would somebody want a Galant anyways?!?!?

Here is the article...

Specific to the United States are two announcements: First, Mitsubishi will discontinue to U.S. and Europe region-specific models. That means that the entire PS platform, which underpins the Galant, Eclipse, and Endeavor, will fade into the sunset. That also means that Mitsubishi’s plant in Normal, Illinois, will need a new model to produce, and Mitsubishi confirmed today that a changeover is imminent.
The yet-to-be-determined model will be built for both domestic and export sale. Considering that, with the exception of the forthcoming i-MiEV, Mitsubishi’s U.S.-market products are based on the GS platform (Lancer, Lancer Sportback, Outlander, Outlander Sport), it’s reasonable to guess that the Normal factory will build one of those variants. Our money is on the Outlander Sport, as it would be the most likely candidate for export sale.
We’re also going to assume that Mitsubishi wants to make the most of its U.S. plant, which has a capacity of 240,000 vehicles a year but only built 18,501 vehicles in 2009 and 29,375 in 2010. Current volume could easily be handled by one successful model, but higher production numbers would require more variants. That could mean existing models (or their successors) or an all-new vehicle based on the GS platform. We’re hoping that the stillborn Concept-RA from the 2008 Detroit auto show gets resurrected as a next-generation Eclipse. Unlikely, you say? Did you ever expect The Fast and the Furious to become a five-movie franchise? Stranger things have happened.

Thank God. That platform made the whole line up look bad.

the OP has 2nd hand news at best and coming from C&D, it never mentioned that the eclipse and other models are specifically going to be discontinued.

Because not everyone wants a overpowered econo-box????

Why would anyone want a Ford Taurus or Chevy Impala? What idiots, they should just buy Corvettes pffft.

I have spoken to my source inside MITSU HQ, and there is multiple plans put forward about the entire product line. Some of the plans I have heard, I strongly disagree with. But nothing has been finalized in terms of long term strategic objectives. The Eclipse has been talked about, but it too still has a ways to go before being decided on.

You clearly missed my point! I didn't ask why anybody would want to buy a family sedan. What I was pointing out is why would somebody want to buy a Galant when there are much better alternatives like the new Hyundai Sonata.

The article never said the Eclipse is dead... it says the ptform that is currently being used to build those cars on is being discontinued.

I thought it was common knowledge the eclipse is getting discontinued.
